Ugh, I'm done with Meriweather

There's nothing I can say that won't torn apart, but that's ok. All I can say is that in 7 games this season, Meriweather was sat twice by BB already. Meriweather has already admitted to free-lancing and not playing "Team" defense.

I really hope his good plays out number his bad ones since this season we are really depending on it.

The Gates should have been TD that was dropped was NOT because of Sanders tip or block but Gates facemask was the best defender on the play which it bounced off of....Sanders was beat to that spot.

I'd actually like to see this replay again. The announcers mentioned the face mask too, but at the time it looked like if Sanders wasn't there it would have hit him right in the hands. I thought he tipped it and it hit him in the facemask instead.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but Meriweather is finally on the "I'm ok with BB tossing his butt on the street" list.

The play that did it for me was yesterday against SD, Meriweather laid a nice hit on Crayton and then got up, all pumped, and did that stupid salute thing.

Problem, Crayton held on to the ball for like a 12 yard gain and a first down, and that play did nothing to stall the momentum of the SD drive.

It was like finger nails on a chalk board for me and just one more clueless act by Meriweather.

Good luck to you bud, have fun on your next team.

Clearly you are the one with the issue.

1) Since you don't realize it, San Diego has a huge MILITARY population. Navy and Marines. There were many servicemen at the game. Meriweather was saluting them.

2) You were probably one of those windbags who was b!Tching and moaning about Meriweather's hit on Heap. So, he makes a great hit on Crayton for the stop and you still b!tch and moan.

3) Crayton made a helluva play to hold onto the ball. Give the man some credit.

4) Every play that is made doesn't have to be a drive killer. Not to mention that San Diego clearly is still a good team even withotu Floyd and Naanee on the field.

I don't post more often because I have to work and can't spend a whole lot of time on here. If you look at my history, I'm not someone that bags on the team...at all.

I'm happy he's thinking of his friend, but there's a time and place. My point is, he seems completely unaware of the situation on the field. If he want to do his salute or dance or whatever after a pass defensed, or an interception, or a tackle actually holding a team from a first down. Go for it. Not after giving up a big play.

His in game awareness is awful.

He didn't give up the play. His awareness is apparently not awful since he knows what plays will get him on TV for his salute to be seen by his friend.

Sanders got his hand on the ball.

Now you are just making excuses. There are a ton of posters on here who work and don't post the garbage you did.

BTW, giving up a 12 yard pass is NOT giving up a big play. Also, Meriweather wasn't the one on coverage. He was picking up the slack from someone else.

You really should think before you post.

Wow, sorry I ruined your day.

I am all for dumping Merriweather, but not because he saluted, because he can't cover and is hit or miss in run support.

Unfortunately with Page and now Chung dinged up, I don't see Merriweather going anywhere.

NOTE TO BB: Please draft SS Barron of Alabama in the next draft. We need him BAD!!!!!

Ochmed - I'm not sure what drugs you've started doing, but you really do need to stop. You've gone from a must read to someone who is board line ignore list material. And that says A LOT about you.

I agree that celebrating after giving up a 12 yard play is a bit clueless but don't agree that BM should be dumped.

It does make me wonder what is going on in that head. I don't really go for on-field celebrations in general though and certainly not selfish ones after what is quite obviously not a play one should be celebrating on any level that I can think of.

I am a vet myself but wait for a good play before you do your salute next time young Brandon.

In the draft forum, BOR did a fantastic analysis of our needs and safety is #1, based in part on contract expirations and also the one year learning curve.

Barron is a great fit, because he has spent the last three years playing in our exact defense. But he will still need a year to fully integrate.

Alabama does not run the exact defense the Pats run. Sorry.

Also, there is no way that Safety is the number #1 going into next off-season. Why? Because of LG, RG, RT, C, and RDE. ALL of them are bigger priorities than Safety.

Every week there is always someone to make that Epic Fail thread.

Congratulations to TX Patriot ... this weeks winner. :pigsfly:

lol, thanks...but I really don't feel like a winner.

I don't know. 12 yards is a first down normally and celebrating giving up first downs is a bit confusing to me. Unless he thought he stopped him from picking up the 1st down it's a stretch to defend that celebration.

I need to see that replay,I didn't see any tip

Is the NFLN replaying this game?

IIRC, the ball hit Gates in the face mask and Sanders knocked it away after (not allowing Gates the double-clutch catch).

That's my recollection of it.

A little overboard on the OP.

While I would agree that he needs to do a better job of embracing what the CT is trying to instill in him and also be more of a "system" guy, he is still a very physically talented player who by all accounts has not been locker room burden.

Coupled with Chung, they both give the defense a tremendous amount of speed and athleticism in the defensive backfield.

I do believe that by the end of the season, BM will be playing at a high-level.

I'd agree that in general, I don't want my players celebrating a play any time it results in a 3rd down conversion for the other team.

However, given the reasoning behind Meriweather's salute - I'd think about it this way.

He absolutely blew up Crayton on that hit - it was a play that is instantly recognizable as one that will be included in the Sportscenter highlight reel for the rest of the week, especially considering how much the national press has focused on Meriweather's tackling the week before.

If his primary goal is to get the message out to his friend, to lift that guy up a little bit and make his life a little easier while he's serving a tour of duty - that's the best play of the game for him to make that gesture, and ultimately I'm okay with it.

Also I'd just like to note that Meriweather doesn't salute after every hit regardless of the circumstances, I think its usually just after a really bonecrunching hit - the circumstances might be of some significance to his friend.

That's a pretty good way of looking at it. I still would have waited until I made an actual good play (the end result was a first down no matter the contributing factors) but you explained his motives very well.

I do agree that Crayton was more tentative after that hit and did drop a few passes later in the game.

I am not in the dump BM camp BTW. I think he's awesome.

I believe every player should do a salute after every play. Let's make it one big a**hole convention
