Ugh, I'm done with Meriweather

In the draft forum, BOR did a fantastic analysis of our needs and safety is #1, based in part on contract expirations and also the one year learning curve.

Barron is a great fit, because he has spent the last three years playing in our exact defense. But he will still need a year to fully integrate.

Already seen the analysis and while I appreciate BoR's posts, I vehemently disagree with him. Simply resign Meriweather and use the draft picks to, I don't know, address areas of the team that are actual liabilities.

I haven't been a person who was negative on Meriweather but I have to say I agree with the OP about the salute (not about getting rid of Meriwaether).

Uh, he could have saluted his military friend at any point, but not after a 12 yard gain. That was the WRONG time to do something like that. It looked like he was celebrating his hit.

What difference does that make. If someone missed their assignment, Meriweather should be pissed, not celebrating.

Regardless if the salute was for a friend or not, he was celebrating his hit, plain and simple. He could have saluted at any other point in the game, but choose that one.

It was a good hit.

This just goes to show that, no matter what Meriweather does, some people will find something to take issue with. Standard operating procedure on this board.

If we get rid of ANY safety next year it will probably be James Sanders.

I think a good reason why Sanders was still here this year is that he is considered by some of the younger guys to be a leader type player in the secondary and they needed a longer veteran presence this year with a team so young

Now that we are starting to see a lot more T-E-A-M out there and Chung developing into a star and a locker room without an apparent cancer right now, I think guys like Sanders could be expendable.

He has between 1 and 6 tackles a game, meaning he may not have another opportunity where he is actually in the play (he had 6 tackles, but that was a season high). Maybe next time he should send his friend an e-card saying "Thinking of you - Brandon" in lieu of a gesture on national television. It would be equally touching.

I suspect his team knew why he did it, as well as his friend, which are really the only perceptions that count.

Same thing can be said the other way around. Whenever someone expresses a contrary opinion, people jump to defend.

In reality, he's not even the worst player on the defense and I fully expect him to play if he's healthy. I'm just saying, I won't be showing up the the farewell party when he leaves.

OBTW, this has nothing to do with the Heap hit, I hate the Ravens (and all their talking) and when Heap was healthy enough to come back in the game, I was actually happy about the hit. Name one significant play Heap had after that hit? In this case, Meriweather actually helped the team (be it cheap shot or not).

Lame thread fam.

As long as his showmanship doesn't get him flagged why not? I though he played well after all the flak he took last week.

I'm praying he gets cut... I'm just starting to hate him. That military comment was such an effin' cop-out. He does the same thing numerous times every game, where he's late to the play, lays the guy out, and then thinks he should celebrate. Not to mention, run his mouth. He's a total moron too if you listen to him talk.

Every time I flip Whopper patties, I throw down the spatula, pull out my pretend six shooters and fire off 4 shots at the manager....as a tribute to Tyrone "Four Fingers" Washington....recently terminated for not cleaning the fryolator properly.

My cousin Jamaal, of the sanitation dept, frisbees garbage can lids after emptying every overflow can, in tribute to his best friend Eddie "The Roach" Jefferson who recently was crushed inside a 2 ton dumpster where he often napped.

So I can understand where Merriwether is coming from. I hear he goes equally nuts while takin dumps

couldn't he have paid respect to his friend on a much better play? like a sack, tackle for a loss, int, fum rec, etc...rather than a tackle on a 12 yard gain? yeah i smell bs.

The reality is that Jack is being polite in pointing out that your origional post will not qualify you for any MENSA invitiations anytime soon.

The defense was lights out. This only happens with 11 guys playing together, doing their job, and playing smart, situational football.

I hate to break it but Merriweather was part of it.

I would also point out that the numerous drops by San Diego receivers (drops were noted in every major Charger blog) were accompanied by peeping Tom activity.

After that hit, Crayton went from surehanded over the middle to... the opposite of surehanded, whatever you'd call that. He flat-out dropped some passes in that area as the game went on, and those drops had a significant role in the outcome. Meriweather's hit was a direct cause of Crayton's skittishness.

Meriweather played a very good game yesterday, and thanks to him our defense is starting to actually instill some fear in opposing receivers. That's a good thing, and it's crazy that there are some people who look at his entire performance yesterday as a negative.

Rational criticism is one thing. I'm fine with criticizing certain players, Meriweather included, when it's warranted (Koppen comes immediately to mind here).

There's a stark difference between reasonable criticism and stuff like this:

I'm praying he gets cut... I'm just starting to hate him. That military comment was such an effin' cop-out. Great. He talks like a moron. Perhaps he missed his elocution class in college. You know who else talks like a moron? Chris Johnson. This is the NFL, not MENSA, so who the hell cares what he talks like.

Certain players on this board tend to elicit these types of visceral reactions from people. Now that Ben Watson and Maroney are gone, and bashing Sanders has sort of lost its luster, we can clearly see that Meriweather has taken their place as the Official Forum Whipping Post.

Meriweather is a good safety. Not Great, but good. He has the potential to be great and although he has slowed down a bit this season and has some character issues, they can at least be improved/fixed. You can't give up on the guy yet unless you want us drafting another secondary player with a high draft pick next year... For like the 5th year in a row.

Sanders had his best game of the year yesterday. He was pressuring the QB, breaking up would-be TDs in the end-zone... pretty much did everything you could ask a safety to do.

losing Bodden certainly helped the Sanders case...........

ppl forget him or what?

This man is correct. Crayton caught a mean case of alligator arms later on in the game.

The Gates should have been TD that was dropped was NOT because of Sanders tip or block but Gates facemask was the best defender on the play which it bounced off of....Sanders was beat to that spot.
