Rumor?: People tweeting about Steve Smith and Pats?

Smith is waaaaay better than Branch so this would have been a better trade.

I think this would be a great idea....Smith is a true professional receiver....He is like WW in the fact that he is not afraid to go over the middle and he will block his arse off on running plays....He can also stretch the field and give us more room to operate.....I am aware of the altercation he got into with the DB but I believe they were both going back and forth.....He has passion for the game and I guess a little too much in practice too but he isn't out shooting and killing people on the streets....He seems to be a good football player that would help this team out......We could have Smith/Branch on the outsides, WW in the slot, Rotate in Tate in 4 Wr sets and bring in Edelman/Woodhead in the backfield with 4 Wr or just put edelman/hernandez in the other slot in 5 Wr.....It would give us flexibility and insurance in case any of our Wr's get hurt.....Right now if one of them goes down we aren't looking too hot at the position.....I love hernandez like everyone else but I want to see him being used like he currently is and not have to line him up as a Wr on every down and that's what it might be if we have any injuries.....

I wish they were talking to Carolina about RBs instead. Williams is in the last year of his contract and Stewart has been ineffective with his limited carries. (Disclosure: Stewart is my binky)

Maybe they were afraid NOT to vote him a captain...

That, and most of the team is barely old enough to vote.

Smith is a smallish receiver that is starting to slow down and wear down. He plays all the time but is frequently running at less than 100%. He is a bit of a diva when he doesn't get his touches and doesn't have a great filter between his brain and his mouth (or his fist).

Right now, I understand why Moss had to go. That will no longer be the case if Smith is brought in.

We should trade Tate then too. Who needs a WR over 5 ft tall?

Amen. At the risk of incurring TripleChamps obviously heightened emotions on this subject, Smith has a long list (more than the two altercations) of conflicts. Ask Tyrone Poole about the fabricated "spitting" incident in SB 38. He is who he is.

Smith is slowing down. I'm happy with Branch (though I think we paid too much for him - - a 5th rounder would have been better value). Brady and Branch have a mind-meld chemistry. Brady has never thrown to Smith except possibly in a pro bowl years ago.

Its just sad the some people have to resort to pure BS to get their point across, I never said I wanted Smith but the guy is a fierce competitor who doesn't take plays off from what I've seen. He may not be the best guy in the locker room but saying he is the worst in the NFL when off the top of my head I can name at least 10 guys who are worse isn't right. For you to say he is slowing down shows to me that you haven't seen him play recently. Im not even going to bring up the little gem at the end of your post.

I'm not so sure about this. He's got a bad ankle (right now) and a bad attitude, from all accounts. If we're trying to get the bad apples out of the locker room, I'm not sure how it would make sense to bring someone in who has gotten into fist fights with his previous teammates.

I've lived in Raleigh for 20 years and I can definitively say he is slowing down. Whether that is due to age or wear, I have no idea. Smith is still a fine receiver with the best hands in the league for a little guy, but I find it hard to justify his baggage-to-production ratio having just purged Moss from the locker room.

I'm all for it. He's as competitive as it gets. So what if he's punched a few teammates, maybe those guys deserved it.

If Harrison punched Asante or Moss punched Chad, it wouldn't bother me.

Let me just reiterate that Im not a fan of the proposed idea but from what I've seen, Steve Smith is getting just as much separation as he did with Delhome in his prime. Can you highlight were his game has taken a legitimate step backward?

I would give the panthers back their second round pick for one of their RBs.:D

johnathan stewart would be AMAZING....id give them our first

I'm hearing this too. Smith will be moved. Tough to say where, though. What's he like from a character perspective?

I think I recall a TEAMMATE ending up with a broken jaw, and a few other skirmishes.....at practices.

No TY, please move along.........:bricks:

Moss was not a bad locker room presence, please listen to his former teammates and not the garbage that you hear/read from the mediots.

I can tell you right now the if steve smith was traded here... for anywhere from a 3rd up everyone in here would be thanking god we have a receiver with the talent of smith on this team. Once again it will be an issue of price andwhat we give up.

that and i can't see it happening haha

Can he rush the passer?
