McCourty or Kyle Wilson?

IMO, the Patriots don't have their corners press a whole lot. I remember BB talking about how he likes his defenses to be symmetrical, and that having one 6'2 corner opposite a 5'10 corner does have some advantages, but he was hinting that that's not what he likes to do.

I don't think Butler will ever be a great press corner. Even for a CB, he's a pretty skinny dude. I think Bodden is a good presser, but he's no Al Harris, so to speak.

I think it's a system fit really. Those guys from Baltimore really like Corners that get in your face and jam (Remember Tory James?). I think Wilson had a better college career but McCourty is a better athlete.

I will say one negative thing for Wilson, a few years ago a guy named Chris Houston, who had a very similar skill set to Wilson, and he was a huge bust.

@NYJetsFan

So basically what I said here.

McCourty can be a #1 or #2 CB.

Wilson will never be more than a #2 or #3.
Saying that, with Revis, who needs another guy who can play #1.

Right, I'm with ya now. And you're right, Wilson might make #2 but it won't be this year. Cromartie will have to fall apart. I know this because I saw the Jets stick with Law an entire season and he was sub par.

Agree! I get tickled when people use the media to back up a point. The media are moronic at best.

Yet a lot of the Jets fans (not saying you) are listening to the media about how the Patriots are an old team, their time is done, Brady will hold out etc etc. When it's not really true.

Man, I really want football to start.

Well, you're spot on with that coment. Like I said in an earlier comment, Wilson showed up to camp out of shape and throwing up ALL the time.

I know why the Jets fans are riled up. Surely you all get it. You've been the media darling of the AFC East for a decade. We're finally getting some positive coverage and we're soaking it up. But, for the first time in years I can tell you I've seen a huge increase in bandwaggon fans who don't remember the misery of being a Jet. I have not forgotten. The Patriots have and will continue to scare me until proven otherwise. The Media are a bunch of morons. I personally don't like being talked about. I miss the underdog mantra from last season. Makes it a lot more fun.

We KNOW the Pats wanted McCourty because they could have had Wilson if they wanted but declined. You don't know if the Jets wanted McCourty because he was off the board when you picked.

The last 4 years we've not been media darlings. We've been hated :bricks:

I tend to ignore the majority of the media excluding the team media and guys like Mike Reiss who have the ear of the team.

Likewise with the Jets, I fear the front 7 especially with Jenkins back. I fear Revis, but if Wes is healthy, it's a massive boost to us.

I think your offense is weakened without TJ and Faneca. Ducasse will take time to mould and if D'Brick doesn't step up without Faneca holding his hand, Sanchez and Greene may struggle.

But there's no doubt that when on form, there are 3 quality WRs there.

I thought that was McKnight, or was it both of them now?

You're right about TJ, but you're wrong about Faneca (IMHO). Watch the tape from last season. Faneca was middle of the road and missed a lot of his assignments. The only thing lost with Faneca was the chemistry of the line. But I'm with you on TJ. He was the locker room leader, no question, he was a workhorse of a player, and the stats don't lie, no matter how many people tell me he succeeded only because of the line. One more thing, I think Ducasse will be fine. When you're working with such a powerful oline, I think it puts him many steps ahead of the normal rookie.

Both I believe. I know McKnight made the news reel for it but Wilson was out of shape from whay I heard also.

In case any Pats fans need reminding, this is our 'press' at work:

“On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sack last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

I know I've posted that quote probably 5 times here, but anytime someone starts thinking that the opinion of sports media does or should matter, it warrants bringing up again.
This was not the media giving opinions after talking to the team, as were the NY press articles. I saw those two articles on another site. You should read them.

What you quoted was just an after-the-draft slamming of BB by a man who hates him.

I dont know who is better right now since neither one has played a down in the NFL. I just sure hope that its not the same results as when the Jets passed on Mayo and choose Gholston.

Gholston belongs in any top 10 draft bust list, no questions asked. This will be his last year in the NFL.

It's always fun when divisional teams draft players at similar positions close together at the top of the draft

Last year

Miami Vonte Davis
Buffalo Jairus Byrd
NE Darius Butler

The "winner" isn't known for at least 3 years because of the approach and the present roster of the NFL team.

This year it's Wilson and McCourty.

There's 5 db's who will be keeping fans comparing because they all were good on draft day but in 3 years ???
That's why we as fans keep getting out of Bed.

Corner Barwin ??????

Some great reading in here. Just don't understand the logic that becaue McCourty was selected before Wilson that he's better, or the suggestion that Wilson was only picked by the Jets because McCourty was no longer there. From everything I've seen since, Wilson was a better fit four our needs and the most likely candidate for the Jets all along.

If it makes anyone using that logic feel better, I'll tell you what you want to here. Mccourty is better than Wilson :)

I forgot about that "divisional" comparison

Didn't take 3 years to determine the winner in that one.

Thanks a lot

I got Pepsi running outa my nose now.

Thank God you weren't drinking this garbage :)

Yes, the Jets unleashed a version of wine called the Jets Uncorked.
