That speed demon Buffalo RB will be ripping huge runs off the right side of our D-Line if we don't fill that DE position with a capable body. Fogive me for not being completely sold on Damione Lewis.

Why not? He's a solid starting caliber DL. 43 DTs that play 34 DE are typically very good against the run, because its easier to play over the T than inside. Plus we have Mike Wright there also.
I don 't think any version of the plan was that we draft a DE to start over those guys.
Don't get caught up in the 'if he aint an allpro he must suck' mentality especially regarding a BB defense that preaches stay home and do your job over and above everything else.

We'll all be sitting here 3 years from now when we draft a defensive back with our 1st pick for the 5th year in a row saying, well I guess it is official, McCourty is a bust. Just like we are saying about Wheatley tonight. We have no TE, no OLB, pass rusher at DE and we select our 3rd or 4th string CB and a ST "gunner". Pathetic!

I know! Since we spent our first round pick on a CB, we are therefore unable to address the positions you cited! Thank you for that trenchant and incisive analysis!

 McCourty is a WIN! Too many unhappy people.

May be the best corner in the draft...... without question, the best special teamer in the draft.

We now have butler - bodden - mcCourty - wilhite......we need this talent with all the wr's in the division.

great pick.......don't you think that the jets had the hearts set on this guy - of course they did - we snatched him away.

If there is one kid BB has seen - it would certainly be a kid from rutgers.......(lacross, his son etc).

BTW, every draft publications compare McCorty to Ronde Barber. Not a bad comparison.

What was the extra pick we got from Dallas?

One of Wilhite or Wheatley is gone, IMO. They did not impress at all last year.

From NFL Draft Scout overview:

That does sound pretty enticing but the DE that we needed was there as well. Weren't you one of the people that liked Wooten? I'm not crossing my fingers hoping he's available for us later on.

Dont blame the Colts, we had a chance to pick these guys... And we went special teams on day 1....

Don't be obtuse. I guess you would rather we draft corners who aren't also good on special teams.
I'm sorry that all that film study, all your trips to the Senior Bowl and combine and interviews with these players was wasted by BB not letting you make the pick.

I HATE ALL OF YOU. DIE SLOW. THIS PIcK SUCKED AND YOU KNOW IT.

Thank you for being one of the sane posters left on this forum.

Seriously, this place gets insufferable.

While I am not putting McCourtey down because we haven't seen him yet,Seriously some homer radicals here would find something positive if BB drafted Zoltan Mesko at #1

And thats the truth

BB is obviously clueless, and all of us sitting in front of our computers know what's better for the Patriots than he does.

With a killer pass rush, you don't need great corners. I was really hoping for a pass rusher first and foremost.

Just sayin'

You know what's funny about all of you guys whining about this pick? It's that in the end, all it comes down to is whether or not the guy is good. And we have no idea about that right now. I remember how psyched everyone was when we picked Maroney, because everyone had heard of Maroney. And how bummed people were when we picked Mankins, because nobody had heard of Mankins. People were psyched about Brace, bummed about Vollmer. And so on.

The Patriots really only had two reliable corners, Bodden and Butler. They also were terrible both on special teams coverage and on special teams returns. If I'm not mistaken the Pats were last in the league in kickoff returns. If the kid is a good returner and a good corner, it's a good pick. If he's not, it's not. It's that simple. Almost all the draft sites had him in the 20-40 range. It's not a crazy pick.

The first round is all about getting a guy who is going to be on the field a lot for you. A guy who is a major contributor both on defense and on special teams is worth a first round pick. If he's good. But you don't know if he's good, do you? None of us do.

look you can have 47 shut down corners, as long as you don't have a pass rush, your SCREWED!!!! They can cover forever, which is what they will have to do........

Who is the starting OLB and DE for the Pats?? Right now its Ty Warren at DE and the "TBD" for the other three spots..........

I hate this new format, now I have to waste another 24 hours hoping that BB drafts anyone who can actually help this team..........
Quick, name the pass rushers for Rutgers the last three years! :)

I think corner WAS a need. Teams live in the nickel today, and DBs are fragile. Wilhite is a solid #4 (which is perfectly fine for where he was drafted, no bust), and Wheatley is a totally puzzling disappointment. Springs is as good as gone. Plug in a genuine quality 3rd corner with Bodden and Butler and you have the kind of powerhouse unit you want back there.

Now consider: the top corners are all gone now. The OLB prospects are not.

sorry....this time I'm not buying it.Kyle Arrington can do 7/8ths of what this guy can do.

If Moss gets hurt in preseason,we are F-ucked.

I wasn't that hot for Bryant, but to pass on him for another CB after Wilhite,Butler,et al is just plain stupid.

We have got to start getting some people who can start, not just for depth.

Jery Hughes just went at 31 to the Colts......he had no value at 27?......pleeez.

From NFL Draft Scout overview:
Stop with the facts already. Don't you know we used our first round pick on a special teamer. Isn't that what it means when fans who havent heard of 30 players in the draft hear that the guy drafted is also a good special teams player?

Why not? He's a solid starting caliber DL. 43 DTs that play 34 DE are typically very good against the run, because its easier to play over the T than inside. Plus we have Mike Wright there also.

Don't get caught up in the 'if he aint an allpro he must suck' mentality especially regarding a BB defense that preaches stay home and do your job over and above everything else.

The only mentality I'm going on is the "he has never played DE in a 3-4 in his 8 year NFL career and it might be a steep learning curve that he isn't ready to grasp, mentality.
