Do the Skins need a Offensive coach?
Steelers lose assistant Spanos to Redskins
As Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan continues to assemble his staff, he's plucked a longtime defensive assistant from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Steelers defensive assistant Lou Spanos has agreed to become the Redskins' linebackers coach. Spanos will work alongside Jim Haslett, who has been hired as the Redskins' defensive coordinator.
Spanos, who started with the Steelers as a scouting intern, is one of only three assistant coaches to be on the Steelers' Super Bowl XXX, Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII coaching staffs.
The Steelers' coaching staff is undergoing some significant changes: Offensive line coach Larry Zierlein and special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky were fired, quarterbacks coach Ken Anderson retired, and linebackers coach Keith Butler could leave to become defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.
