I have to say, I've been a pretty outspoken supporter of the defense, and was pretty pleased today, but I remain a bit wary, despite the stats. Just from what I'm seeing - which, obviously, was much more impressive as the game went on - I still am not sure I'd come close to calling this defense "dominant" or even approaching dominant. Still need convincing, especially with such a piss-poor pass-rush.

Poor tackling. Loose coverage. Bad hands.
Please explain your thinking on this.
Shirley, you can't be serious?
Funny, you're the only one who seems to think so.
Well I mean - he covered Jenkins today, who coincidentally led the falcons in receiving. He doesn't get the job done yet.
Mr. Bauer, weren't we on the same page last week? what happened? one week changed you're mind?

I'll agree with everyone that he's an upgrade from Hobbs/O'Neal, but who wouldn't be?
I'd much prefer and feel a lot more comfortable with Springs-Wilhite-Butler-Bodden-Wheatley depth chart.
you'll never get off the practice squad, with posts like this.
So you are looking at when Jenkins lined up at Flanker and the coverage was man? Even that wouldn't yield the logic. Jenkins made the majority of his plays when he was running posts and inside stuff against zone coverage. This means that Bodden didn't have him as responsibility on his largest plays. The one big play Jenkins made on Bodden was when he pushed off. Jenkins pushed off because Bodden was on him like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm.
Towards the loose coverage...have you seen the balls thrown in his direction? You know, the ones that are broken up because the coverage is so damn tight? What about the gorgeous form tackle he executed today on the hitch? How he drove hard as hell on the ball out of his soft coverage assignment? Suddenly he can't tackle? He's the best tackling corner on the bloody football team! A top 5 in the league at that.
Honestly, is this a troll or are you being serious?
please explain. also, please explain you're undying loyalty to the credibility to the pats fans nickname system.

far from a troll my friend. and top 5 tackling corner in the league?????? WHAT?
need i say more? that's ridiculous. as for your "zone" argument...well that just wasnt the case today. two of his largest gains came on an out-route and a button hook...both that should've been covered by the CORNER...bodden
I think I'm in the same boat as you. While I do remain optimistic about the defense and think they are performing admirably without Mayo, I think there's a slight overreaction to their performance. They were looking pretty bad on the first few drives of the game and the 3rd good drive stalled from a fumble by Turner. Yeah, credit to McGowan for the force but at that moment our defense appeared to be in big trouble. More trouble on Atlanta's 3rd quarter drive thwarted by a few penalties and luckily for us they did not attempt 4th and 5 after a good gain on 3rd and 18 (caused by those penalties). Atlanta's offense was only on the field for 20 minutes as well so I give our offense alot of credit for today, despite the RZ failures.
Great job on the original post of the thread, good read. But like others have said it's hard to see Bodden back here, if his season continues the man is going to get paid next year. We have Springs, Wilhite, and Butler here multiyear so I don't see us getting into the bidding but you never know. My only question is why did we wait so long to stock up on CB's when we knew Asante was gone after '07. Still can't believe we entered '08 with just Hobbs, Deltha, and the rooks.
