I fell in love with this kid at the NFL combine. Not only does he have measurables but he is silky smooth and a natural cover corner. Unless Ellis Hobbs is willing to take Nickel money I think we're saying goodbye to him in 2010, and Bulter might well be our #1 corner at that time. So let's rejoice we got Butler. At times I had him projected to go to the Pats as early as pick #23.

Butler has all the athletic gifts to continue to play at a high level at the next level. He is an excellent athlete, with the quickness and agility to follow receivers in and out of their breaks. On talent alone, he is one of the best corner prospects in the draft.

Player Comparison: Asante Samuel. Same build. Similar skill set, but Samuel has better ball skills, which Butler can improve.

If he gets stronger and tackles more consistantly, then he will be special. He should excel in the BB defense. I am excited to see how he does in TC.

Bill Belichick said he is the most athletically gifted corner he has ever worked out.

High praise indeed.

All this and we will be paying him as a second rounder, and we received an extra two 3rds in the trade.

I agree, I'm excited about Chung too because he'll hit you in the mouth.

Butler can play some WR too :singing:

Ive been watching video's on him and chung, both big hitters, I LOVE IT!

Will he eventually oust Hobbs from starter? - In 2 years we should know

CB, WR, RB? SOLD!!! :woohoo:

Two-thirds of the earth is covered by water, the rest is covered by Darius Butler. :D I know that's an oldie, but I like it.

Did you know that Butler's uncle is Gene Atkins? And of course his cousin is Willis McGahee. The kid's got bloodlines too. He also sounds like he really understands defensive schemes to go along with his athletic talents.

But what will make Butler at the next level is his skills in the defensive backfield, and one attribute he brings is a versatility between man-in-man and zone coverages. " I can play zone effectively, but if I had to choose one, I would choose man-to-man," he said, when asked what he preferred. "We played a lot of Quarters coverage [where the defense splits the deep coverage into fourths]. We played man, but I would say it was a softer man. We would have underneath help, and some different inside help. Mostly Quarters and some Cover-2. We'd mix it up; man off, safety in the box, corner plays a level and the safety plays a half, like Cover-2. We played it a variety of different ways."

I bet if Butler said that to Maualuga, the guy would have a cranial meltdown! :D

VERY COOL stuff here. Did you know that Deion Sanders had a hand in training Butler? Butler was one of the students at Prime U.

Hobbs will be playing for someone else in 2010 or 2011 depending on whether a new CBA is signed before the start of the 2010 contract year. So, yes we shoudl expect Butler to be a starter in 2010 or 2011.
