Sometimes the more serious the crime, the easier it is to judge the accused celebrity from afar, because the legal process is more serious too.

If somebody is accused of slapping his wife, and she changes her story a couple of times, we don't really know what happened. If somebody is accused of killing his wife, we usually have a pretty good idea, even if he gets off undeservedly.

The only pre-judging Stallworth is SUFFERING from is his difficulty in getting a contract for next year, which has arisen despite him not being convicted of everything. But hey -- even if he was sober, he did kill a man.

Re: OT: Stallworth Kills Pedestrian

The act of drinking did not kill anyone, it was the driving. Commenting on the rest would be a waste of time because your post shows it won't matter and it's not really what this forum is about.

By coincidence, after I logged off here last night I received a call from a good friend of mine whose daughter was placed in a medically-induced coma on a ventilator with brain damage yesterday after being hit by a guy driving with a blood alcohol content (not alleged) of 0.29. The driving didn't put here there, Deus.

Deus, sometimes out here I realize that I'm chatting with folks who know a lot about the Pats and the NFL, but with whom I'd really rather have nothing else to do. Let's just say we both fall in that category for each other.

I enjoy what you say about football; but, otherwise, we live in different worlds. I won't be back to this thread, so save any self-important, pseudo-intellectual "zingers" for your bathroom mirror.

Let's just stick to football. I didn't want Stallworth back before this and I don't want him back now.

Oh, that's terrible! :( Is there any realistic chance that she pulls through?

My condolences about your friend's daughter.

Anyone here who has gone out to eat and drank a beer or two or glass of wine then STFU as you have done the same thing. A .12 reading is nothing, i cant stand the do as i say crew and we have many of them here on this site!

It's a shame that someone had to die because of this but lets see the facts first before we call for the guys head on a platter!

This will not go over well. It's a tragedy for all parties. It doesn't make Stallworth a bad guy. But, he will always wonder: would it have been different if I had one less drink?

.12 is nothing?

For a 180lb male, .12 is 6 drinks immediately, and then a 7th before the first hour is up, and then one every hour.

I'm about 210, and if I slam 6 or 7 beers in a matter of an hour, I'm in really rough shape.

Is it that much? That is alot, even for a boozer like me.

Well, the numbers aren't quite as exact as they make them out to be, but here's a site with a BAC calculator:

How many drinks does it take? Calculate your blood-alcohol level

According to that calculator, a 180 pound man can put down 4 drinks in an hour and remain under .08, but the 5th drink would put him over.

An interesting note (at least to me) is that, for that same 180 pound man, drinking just 6 drinks over a 4 hour period theoretically means that the man will blow just over .08. On the other hand, a 280 pound man can drink 6 drinks in an hour and still blow just barely over .07.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I'm going to watch this more closely (especially when I'm back in the US).

That's the caveat with the breathalyzer; it seems to register differently for different people so you have to question the validity of basing an arrest just upon those results? And consider what got you pulled over in the first place-bad driving or a bored cop who noticed a taillight out or something, then smells alcohol when he/she pulls you over? Whips out the breathalyzer and you're off to the races, even though it wasn't your driving that attracted attention in the first place.

It's a quagmire for sure, and in the Stallworth situation there're definitely NO winners here. It would have been a blessing if Donte had been noticed and gotten pulled over before this tragedy even occured. Woulda, coulda, shoulda; but it would have saved a life and probably averted all this.

I hate booze.

This is another tragedy that most likely could have been prevented.

I've learned from my mistakes.

It's a very emotional issue, especially when people who've been affected by it personally are involved in the discussions.

I don't know a whole lot about the breathalizer, but what Dues posted had nothing to do with that, it has to do with having more mass leading to needing more alchohol to reach a certain blood concentraion.

BAC is simply Alchohol Volume / Blood volume. Bigger people have more blood. (they also generally have larger kidneys and livers...which helps)

I don't know a lot about it either except that, when used alone, it doesn't always seem 100% reliable and that many other factors come into play with it. It does add a more "scientific" approach though, what did they do before this was invented? Probably much more subjective-based call, I'd imagine.

The issue with it not being reliable (it is mostly reliable) is that theres no constant as to how quickly people process alchohol. Lawyers tell you to refuse the breathalizer and ask for a blood test because its going to take an hour plus before they can actually do the blood test, and you'll have processed some of the alchohol.

When I was in high school our driver's ed teacher told us there was an urban legend that you could beat a breathalyzer test by having a penny under your tongue. (How you're supposed to get it under your tongue without the cop noticing is something I never figured out.)

But anyway, he told us a past student claimed this worked for him. So the teacher asked, "But how much did you drink that night?" The student answered, "I didn't have anything to drink that night."

Re: Donte Stallworth may get cut today. Would you take him back?

Yeah, I've been following this, since the first article came out. Apparently, his blood alcohol level wasn't...legal. Perhaps, he can get some tips from Michael Vick.

You can bet the family will be going after the monies that ole Donte has accumulated. Talk about going from something to nothing in a few seconds flat.

I wonder how accurate this is... but, thanks for the link.

So, Wilfork could drink a keg and not really be in that bad of shape huh?

Interesting...

NEM?

You're around here somewhere...I can sense it
