Izzo signs with the...Jets!

Re: Izzo

The other one I remember was the play immediately preceding Willie Mac grabbing him by the face mask and tossing him like a rag-doll. :)

The Anabolic One should've been released following that '05 season.

The days of ST-only "mavens" are - hopefully - ovah.

Guyton, Woods & TBC will fill the void quite nicely, thank you.

Next on my no-longer-useful list: Bruschi & Alexander. The FO should've let those 2 go, and signed Andra Davis instead.

When it's time to change, you got to rearrange...

Good luck, Izzo. Thanks for everything.

Ditto...I stood fast in his corner during the last off season. It's time to cut the chains. Best of luck!

Jets confirm Izzo signing - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

The Jets have sent out a release confirming the signing of Patriots special teams captain/linebacker Larry Izzo.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to play for the Jets and Mr. [Woody] Johnson," Izzo said in the release. "I'm grateful for the chance to be reunited with [special teams] coach [Mike] Westhoff, who played a key role early in my career, and look forward to playing for Coach [Rex] Ryan as he brings his passionate, physical style of football to New York. Having spent my entire career in the AFC East, I'm very familiar with the Jets' incredibly loyal, knowledgeable and passionate fans and this is an amazing chance to work hard and make them proud."

Does it sound strange the the owner of the Jest is named Woody Johnson?

Although he did a lot of good for the Pats while he was here, I'm glad to see him go after he was connected to the Balco scandal and feel that this is not a big loss for the Pats. Izzo was a special teams captain but its obvious he is not the same player now that he once was.

Banta-Cain and Lewis will pick up some of slack for the losses of Izzo and Washington. And then there's Alexander, who is also signed to the roster.

Per Reiss here are the special team tackle leaders for '08

LB Larry Izzo -- 14
S Matthew Slater -- 13
S Brandon Meriweather -- 11
OLB Pierre Woods -- 11 (team-high 9 solo)
WR Sam Aiken -- 10
CB Mike Richardson -- 8
LB Gary Guyton -- 7
WR Kelley Washington -- 7
S/WR Ray Ventrone -- 6
OLB Vince Redd -- 6

Although not the gunner he once was he is still productive.

Larry Izzo is a traitor!! Damn him!!

Ohhhhhhhhhh, come on "JEST Fan." Larry is (was) a good one. THX larry for the ENDZONE INT vv. Buffallo in 2003.

What is the point as a "JEST fan" ? picking the best of the REST ?
The JEST r "trying" to copy the Patriot-Way w/out rings !!!!!!!

Question for U gunni, " Can a team win w/out a QB ........like the JEST?":singing:

========================================================

With Manginis departure the Jets have moved on to trying to emmulate the Ravens now.

As I understand football, you can not win with out a QB.

Jets have 3 QBs, kellen Clemens will be the Jets starter for game 1 of the 09 season.

Re: Izzo

Izzo is Dead To Me

:rofl: ... what he said ... :yeahthat:

Larry sleeps with the fishes ... :p

Can someone Photoshop Woody's head onto that fish. :confused2:

Rather than his being linked to BALCO a number of years ago, it may be his long association as the captain of Brad Seely's Special Teams unit that has made an otherwise popular Izzo among the LOST. Now, Scott O'Brien can start with a clean slate and put his own imprimatur on the "Other Third" of the game.

Vince Redd. He's the answer. When you see the Patriots live, and you see Redd standing out there on special teams, you realize the Patriots have a behemoth who can fly out there. I imagine that guy is going to bust some people up on special teams. He's huge. He makes everyone else look puny.

”Having spent my entire career in the AFC East, I’m very familiar with the Jets’ incredibly loyal (= fixated), knowledgable (= obsessive) and passionate (= psychopathic) fans and this is an amazing chance to work hard and make them proud.”

Good luck, Larry. (I have a friend -- not a football fan -- who knows Larry Izzo and he has nothing but good to say about him. I'm not sure what he's done to deserve being a Jester, but I wish him luck anyway.)

Re: Izzo

Does anyone have any memories of him making a play on D?

You definitely don't want to see him playing on D. He was the Pats' ST captain for years, though, and is very effective in that role.

He always played hard and was productive. Until recently he stayed out of trouble. Can't ask for much more.

I just hate to see him go to the Jesters although I am very comfortable in our ST'ers without him.

Re: Izzo

Correction: The Green Beans are from New Jersey, they have nothing to do with New York City.

Their stadium may be in NJ, but they represent NYC, make no mistake about it.

Giants = Jersey

Rats = NYC

I always thought this was common knowledge.
