Goodbye Rodney? Hello John Lynch?

I'd like to see Lynch brought in. He can't be much more of a liability in the passing game than Rodney was.

I feel pretty bad for Rodney though. Pretty bittersweet way to go after all he's done for us.

Bring the Hawk outta retirement.

Well, he looked like he could still play when he was in the last preseason game.
I absolutely love Lynch in the preseason and was totally surprised when they cut him. God forbid Harrison is out and down for the count (totally love Rodney) but Lynch is the best replacement, IMO.

The cynic in me thinks that EricTheRat sees the Pats situation with Rodney, and moves quickly today to try and sign John Lynch, but the realist in me thinks he lands in New England. :)

It didn't look good for Rodney, I'm sorry to say. I love the guy, and hope I'm wrong.

Ty Law at Safety? Hmmm....

Not that it matters much but I have lived in AZ for 4.5 years and have been a Pats fan for 22 years but still a sad day to see a Vet go down non the less. :( I hope Rodney is ok.

Down with the Jets and Ratfatgina!

Love this idea. He knows the D. He's a natural playmaker and he's smart enough to make up for the step he has probably lost in terms of speed. Bring Spann off of the PS and I think the Secondary can survive the loss, which is undeniably huge.

Meriweather and Sanders have been playing very well. The real problem is that Sanders is a free agent after this year, and we don't have a third safety for this season.

Lewis Sanders was brought in to play CB and Safety. Antwan Spann is also on the roster. As is Matt Slater.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lynch in here. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Ty Law.

Bringing back Lynch seems like a no brainer.. i cant see Ty Law playing safety as he probably would feel it would be a step down from his "elite corner status"..

Lynch would be a no brainer move and Law has tons of intrigue but I refuse to believe this is it for Rodney. I am still holding out hope that it is a few weeks and back.

Law wants too much cake. The quotes when Lynch got cut were like a love in. I suspect he will be here.

They could certainly reconsider Lynch for depth or in a rotation, but the thing is that is not what he wanted or he'd have remained in Denver. He wanted a shot at starting, and he didn't nearly make the grade here according to Reiss when he dug deeper after the media presumed something based on nothing more than cordial parting comments.

He wasn't getting the defense either, which is why he saw limited reps in pre season. What some of you think you saw in week 4 of the pre season was Lynch being extended a veteran courtesy if you will, allowed to plead his case against and create an audition tape versus 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers on offense.

It didn't land him a starting role anywhere. Now he's been home taking the kids to school for several weeks. I know he believes he can still play. So does Troy. That doesn't mean they can.

I have no problem with him coming in as a depth guy. But you are absolutely right. His days as a starter are behind him. If he cant start for this porous Denver secondary, he certainly should not be starting here.

I was just watching the NFL Network and on the bottom of the screen it said that Harrison had a torn quad muscle and is out for the year.

Injuries are definetly taking a told on this team.

So if it isn't Lynch what does BB choose to do? Ty Law? Seau? One of our rookies? I guess we'll soon find out.

Based on a general low opinion of Lynch (I thought he looked ok, but we don't know what the coaches are looking at), I'd rather see Law come in as a safety. He'd bring some excitement with him, which may help the team's morale. Rodney's a BIG loss, way beyond what he brings to the field.

Brady, Maroney, Harrison.
That's just messed up.

For sure. Ugh.

The knock on Lynch is his cover skills have diminished and the safety position in NE calls for both someone who can play aggressive against the run and cover athletic Tight Ends in space. The Ty Law to Safety position is intriguing. I have to think Ty has also lost a step.

I realize that this might sound blasphamist, but I don't think that losing Rodney is going to be that big of a deal for the Pats. He had lost a step, and even last night, he had another one of his "dirty" penalties. Sanders and Merriweather are probably a better starting duo, the problem now is depth. Ty Law would be an interesting free saftey.
