Colts waived NT Ed Johnson.

Johnson was a great story last year, starting all 16 games after making the Colts as an undrafted free agent, but that's old news after he was arrested for marijuana possession. The Colts' interior line is in much poorer shape now, but they were willing to make this sacrifice based on principle.

Gotta give them credit especially for the caliber of player they cut.

He had major issues in college but we gave him a chance. I guess he was on thin ice here or a locker room cancer perhaps even.

Bring back Booger please.Or at least put Brock back full time at DT please.

Our DT curse continues every year.

It's worth noting that the "great story" about the undrafted kid making good was directly related to his history of transgressions to begin with. This is the sort of thing that affected Johnson's draft status:

And the IndyStar article indicates that wasn't his only brush with trouble.

So basically Indy took a chance on an athletic DT who was available cheap because of HUGE character question marks, and told him he had to keep his nose clean. He very publicly failed on that, so they cut him. Props to Indy for sticking by their word despite Johnson's on-field value...but also recognize that they're merely reaping what they sowed.

Wow, props to the Colts organization. A lot of people talk about holding every player (even the important ones) to a high standard, but they actually went through with it.

Kudos to the Colts. Too bad the young man was so foolish that he pissed away a golden opportunity for redemption.

Brock (274 lbs) will team with three technique Keyunta Dawson (254) to form the lightest set of interior tackles in the league. Johnson was Indy's only down lineman over 275. It could be 2006 all over again for this run defense.

Per Rotoworld...

Thats a really small interior in the dline I dunno how there going to hold up.

I don't think the Patriots would have taken a guy with that checkered a past in the first place. I recall guys with an occasional bar-style fight or shoplifting-type theft in their background, but I think that's about as far as it's gone for rookies. (Guys who are further away from their youth, like Dillon, seem to be a different matter.)

The Colts' approach deserves respect too.

yeah for the colts!

Teams like Cincy could learn a thing or two from organizations like that.

If he is suspended by the league, I think he has to enter a halfway house (aka, the Cowboys) before signing with another team.

Colts staff their DTs from temp agencies or guys hanging in front of Home depot.

It's a pretty low priority from them, they'll pick up some more stiffs somewhere.

Since when do the Colts play a three man line?

Polian will play DT for the Colts from now on.

Anyway yeah they will likely sign someone. Someone I never heard of.

I do give a little credit to the Colts to cut bait on this guy, but he was a bad seed who probably should have never been given a shot in the NFL to begin with.

If the guy was signed as a rookie free agent by the Pats or another team that didn't have Dungy as a head coach they would have been roasted for adding this guy to the team. He was expelled from Penn State for sexual misconduct. People trash Kevin Faulk and the Pats more for having a joint at the Lil Wayne concert.

Let's not act like the Colts have a zero tollorance policy here. If this happened to another player, they probably wouldn't have acted so harshly. Several Colts players have some significant black marks against them like Dominic Rhodes (DUI and domestic battery) and Marlin Jackon (felony assault). They don't have any more players with problemed pasts than most teams, but they have looked the other way a lot of these problems though.
