Default Red Sox-Diamondbacks discussing trade for Justin Upton?

According to reports from Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Red Sox have expressed interest in trading for Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton and the two sides have had preliminary discussions about a possible swap for the 24 year old RF.

I don't know if I could be any more in favor of this move. I am 150 percent emphatically behind acquiring Upton and would tag him as priority number 1. I'd rather have him at this point than any available player the Red Sox might be targeting. Yes, I include Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder and Cliff Lee in that mix.

Upton at 24 hasn't even come CLOSE to scratching the surface and he's already extremely good now. Two years ago, Upton had a breakout season in which he slugged .532 with 26 home runs and a .300 batting average.

At $50 million over the next five seasons, he's under contract at a bargain price and I'm absolutely stunned Arizona's even considering listening to offers for him.

There's really one downside to possibly getting him, and that's the fact that he's going to cost anyone who trades him a decent haul. I can tell you right off the bat, Arizona has asked for Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Ryan Kalish. Arizona rightfully isn't trading him for cheap.

To me, as high of an upside as all three have, I'd do it. He brings more to the table than either Carl Crawford or Jayson Werth, he is younger and has more upside than both and comes at a FRACTION of what either Crawford or Werth are going to command.

Think of this.. Justin Upton at RF, Mike Cameron in CF, Jacoby Ellsbury at LF? Yep, I'll take that in a heartbeat.

I don't disagree with you on anything except for 1 player....I wouldn't trade Casey Kelly.....Give them 2 other prospects in his place but I don't want him to go anywhere but to the Majors for the Sox...

You don't want Justin Upton. He's lazy and doesn't care. I've been following him ever since the D'Backs drafted him and heard about how he's the next Ken Griffey Jr. He'll show you just enough promise so you keep him around.

The acquisition would be interesting but I wouldn't trade Ryan Kalish and Casey Keller for him.

I really don't know too much about those players, but considering what the Sox have done with home grown players I wouldn't pull that trigger.

I think the trade would take Jacoby Ellsbury, Jed Lowrie, and Casey Kelly.

Then they could re-sign Adrian Beltre and possibly Victor Martinez.

I was hating on it this year ... not even a decent bandaid move last year.
