If you can put together a sustained drive then the Pats bad secondary becomes moot. Brady melts down late in games but part of the problem is the 'prevent offense' we run at that point.

Another unfortunate truth is that Eli is clutch at this point, reminds me of that way TFB used to be.

This discussion would have been going full force last January had Billy Cundiff hit that chipshot FG.
Hilarious how some Patriot fans are so afraid to actually discuss the reality of this team and these players.
You'd think we were accusing Tom Brady of murdering someone.
Would you folks please grow up or perhaps the board moderators need to set up a kiddie room where all you teenage crush "fans" can gather.

Tom Brady stats, total vs. 4th quarter:

2012
Tot: 65.8%, 7.6 ypa, 97.2 rating
4th: 58.6%, 7.7 ypa, 93.2 rating

2011
Tot: 65.6%, 8.6 ypa, 105.6 rating
4th: 66.4%, 8.6 ypa, 107.1 rating

2010
Tot: 65.9%, 7.9 ypa, 111.0 rating
4th: 64.9%, 7.6 ypa, 106.7 rating

2009
Tot: 65.7%, 7.8 ypa, 96.2 rating
4th: 60.3%, 5.7 ypa, 75.9 rating

2007
Tot: 68.9%, 8.3 ypa, 117.2 rating
4th: 65.0%, 8.9 ypa, 114.4 rating

2006
Tot: 61.8%, 6.8 ypa, 87.9 rating
4th: 61.7%, 6.3 ypa, 85.0 rating

2005
Tot: 63.0%, 7.8 ypa, 92.3 rating
4th: 63.6%, 8.0 ypa, 91.3 rating

2004
Tot: 60.8%, 8.0 ypa, 92.6 rating
4th: 54.9%, 7.3 ypa, 72.3 rating

2003
Tot: 60.2%, 6.9 ypa, 85.9 rating
4th: 60.4%, 6.1 ypa, 85.8 rating

2002
Tot: 62.1%, 6.3 ypa, 85.7 rating
4th: 58.0%, 6.6 ypa, 91.6 rating

2001
Tot: 63.9%, 6.9 ypa, 86.5 rating
4th: 58.2%, 5.9 ypa, 75.1 rating

What does this tell us? It tells us that pretty consistently over the course of his career, Tom Brady has been a less effective passer in the 4th quarter than he has been in the rest of the game. Keep in mind that the "Tot" stats above *include* the 4th quarter numbers, which tend to pull the totals down. So the disparity between quarters 1-3 and quarter 4 is actually bigger than these numbers suggest.

Bottom line: Tom Brady is a great, great quarterback, who has a ton of comeback wins and clutch performances. But over the course of his career, even in the years when they won the Super Bowl, he's been a worse QB in the 4th quarter. Those are the facts.

Damn, you got a funny way of reading those statistics then.

His rating is better in the 4th quarter in 2 of those seasons; the difference is negligible in six seasons; and he's noticeably worse in three seasons (including his rookie year and the season after the ACL).

How on earth do you extrapolate that into:

you can't put the notion of 'magic' on brady alone.

there are some things about him that give the appearance of him getting on in years. the biggest one is his pocket presence or pocket awareness. anyone who says he's still the same QB he's always been in the pocket is in denial. watch film from the present and the past at the same time. especially against tougher defenses......even in those instances when the pats were getting pounded by the steelers in 2004 or something, he was behaviorally a completely different QB than he is now.

part of this is understandable. At his age, he has to have life beyond football on his mind, and would deservedly like to preserve the same physical capacities he currently has.

what doesn't jibe with that is that the scheme and the playcalling is trying to make him look like brett favre.

What I wouldn't give to watch brady implement Charlie Weis' scheme now. patience and taking what is being given because there is always something being given. that same scheme that helped insulate a developing QB would work even better with an aging QB in the beginning throes of decline.

the defense is going to give up the same proportions until it can actually improve.

the offense needs to improve percentages.......redzone, 3rd down.....reduce the total number of possessions in a game.

Using all quarters v. the 4th kinda skews things a bit, what is he in 1-3 v. 4?

The way they address it is to take the pressure off him. Incorporate the run game, go back to the dink and dunk, the screens plays etc. .....

Defense needs to blitz more and the O needs to get back to the basics.

One of the greatest QB's of all-time (top 5 in my book) John Elway never won a SB until he was in the twilight of his career. The reason Elway won in his late 30's is because THE BRONCOS CHEATED ON THE CAP TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD A RB AND SOME PLAYMAKERS and stopped making their offense all about John Elway and his arm and incorporated a running game. Patriots need to do the same thing. Granted the Patriots don't have a Terrell Davis but the Pats have more than enough talent on offense to stop throwing the damn ball and exposing your QB 58 freakin' times.
fixed it for you.

If you think TB has lost any magic…check this out. It is the main advertisement on ESPN.com today.
No one else could pull this off except for TB himself…
