No comparison at all. The '72 phins weren't even that great of a team, they just happened to string together 17 wins, many of them being close calls.

You are buying into a false comparison. There are many, many teams in the past few years better than the 1972 dolphins, including three AFC teams last year, and certainly including the 2003 and 2004 patriots.

And there have been several better in the past. Only dolphin homers think that the 1972 dolphins would have done any better against the 1985 bears than we did. They were the best single season team.

You are right. Pats are 4 games away from that discussion. Lose anyone of the next four and there will still be only one perfect season.

The only fair comparison, if the Pats go all the way and win the SB is the 85 Bears. Who gets the edge? Well, the Pats will have the most dominant offense in the history of the game, the Bears that year had arguably the best defense of all time. The difference? 19-0 vs 18-1. Edge Pats.

You sound like anti_Patriots from 2001.

Wake the eff up will you? How can you say they weren't a great team when they had the mental fortitude to survive 17 straight in the NFL? Did you watch that team? They had a devastating running game, and they accomplished that feat with a backup QB.

Give up the stupid comparisons, and give up the stupid criticisms of a team that won 17 straight. Just accept it. Embrace it. It's the history of the game, and it exists for all of us to admire. Don't be so freaking small that you can't give credit to them for what they accomplished.

Every time you deny their greatness you sow the seeds of some Bears fans or Jaguars fans doing that to our guys twenty years from now.

I never said they weren't a great team, I said they weren't that great, as in greatest team ever. They most certainly weren't, it's not even a question, and I'm not sure how you can even argue that.

I'm not denying that 17-0 wasn't a great accomplishment, it's one of the greatest in the history of ANY sport. But do you honestly believe for a second that the 07 pats would have any trouble dispatching the 72 dolphins? Pound for pound, that team was nowhere near as talented as some of the greats, 85 bears, 07 pats, etc.

I think the Pats would have won more than 5 with Cassel at the helm. FWIW.

Both Parcells and Mike Ditka have said the '07 Patriots would beat the '85 Bears. The Pats would spread them out on D and kill them. Parcell's noted today on ESPN that is exactly what the Dolphins did to them in '85 in handing the Bears their only loss that year.
