Defenses can't stop Moss, Welker and Stallworth now while they have excellent footing. Imagine the futility of the situation when they are packpeddling on a wet, slippery and frozen field not knowing where the receiver is apt to go?

yes but wind and rain can effect throwing. iam sure we wont be move as smoothly in the cold weather and see more running plays .If its just cold weather then its still ok.
Also as the writer points out..welker does take a lot of hits.

High wind would be problematic to a passing offense obviously but how often do high wind days happen?

As for Welker I'm more worried about the possibility he gets hurt running back punts than any hit he takes catching passes from Brady.

Sloppy tracks favor the receivers provided the QB can grip the ball. It's much easier to cut on wet ground when you know where you are going as opposed to reacting to someone's cut like a d-back has to do.

Look at the snow game.

I agree with all the posters who give the passing offense even more of an advantage in the rain.

Interesting historical note - Randy Moss's breakout game in 1998 at Lambeau Field happened during a driving rainstorm....

Bad weather can often assist the receivers. If it's too windy you can shorten the field. But sloppy fields mean a big advantage to the receivers.

And wherever would the Pats find another slot receiver...hmm...

A slot receiver/ PR's job is to take a lot of hits, I'm not too worried about Wes. But the more I think about this glorious pass-happy offense and how key the slot man is, the more I think Troy Brown does make it back to the 53 as Welker insurance.

So they are using the "run and shoot?" (essentially??)

Just because you line up and throw the ball around, that makes it the run and shoot?

Some of the scheme knowledgable folks gotta weigh in on this. I think that this assumption is off the mark. The colts don't run the "run and shoot."

I do agree that Welker is huge and that we can't afford him getting hurt. But it is his yak that might be the biggest thing, (well, he gets open wonderfully too.) But, it is the whole package that makes it so.

To say that it won't work because of weather, or injuries (that he implies WILL occur since they happened in other Run and shoot examples) seems like the clutching at straws kinda thing.

Anyway, we will see. Randy grew up playing in semmi cold weather in Virginia. Bottom line is that Brady throws a very nice ball for these guys, and the o-line is doing great. He has time. The whole package is doing wonderfully. It is not just, "well the run and shoot has been beat, so it'll happen again. Next question." They are fool to think this way. But, there are a lot of fools so... we shall see.
