Default BB: Troy Brown in plans for next year

From Tom Curran:

Quote:
It looks as if Brown and Brady will be back together next year.Troy Brown is in the Patriots' 2007 plans despite recent surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon.

"I expect Troy to have a role with us this year as far as I'm concerned," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told NBCSports.com on Wednesday. "He is part of the plan for next season."

Good news.

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

yes.... Yes.... YES... Troy Brown is my favorite (current) Pats player... I'd love to see him finish his career in NE... and then, if he has the desire and BB wants him to... move on to coach in the organization!!! This is truly outstanding news!

Needless to say training camp will be very interesting.

If Chad Jackson ends up being PUPed or IRed that makes it easy as we could keep 6 WR as Troy can play defense and Washington is a good ST player.

If Jackson is healthy, it will be a spiritied competition for 5 or maybe 6 spots with one WR not making it. Or there's the outside, teensy weensy, chance they could keep 7 and just keep the competition up all season. Keeping 7 seems unlikely, though doable.

Am I the only one on edge about the vague way BB couched that stuff? "plans" and a "role?" Couldn't this just as easily be in a non-playing capacity? I hope not, but I think it's possible.

LOL

I just said in another Troy Brown thread that they are all just doing the off season it's a business Troy Brown dance circa 2007. Troy says he wants to play, hopes to play here, wants more than a crumb for his services. Bill counters with a we love Troy on this team type statement.

Bingo.

No - BB only plans for the team, not the franchise PR department. And Troy is not going to assistant coach for 80 hours a week $150K per.

If Troy were interested in getting into coaching, he'd likely start out at home at Marshall (where he has done some voluntary work for them in the past). Then maybe when his kids, who are barely grade school age, are heading for college he might look to get into the pro's. He could do that while remaining on the PR payroll in Foxboro, and the Kraft's are on record saying that a job with the organization is his for life already provided he wants it. I imagine he will since that will likely keep him on the spokesman/endorsement radar of team sponsors and adevertisers.

Hmm, keeping 7 does seem like a lot. Like you said, Washington's eagerness to play ST, combined with Troy's ability to fill multiple roles makes keeping 6 WRs no problem.

Stallworth, Welker and Caldwell are locks. Jackson is a lock in the sense that he will either be on the roster or on the PUP/IR depending on the severity of his injury. Brown is seemingly a lock in BB's opinion. That leaves Washington & Gaffney fighting for that 6th spot...Don't particularly want to see either of those guys go, as Gaffney has already proven to be a solid addition and Washington HOPEFULLY will do likewise.
