Default Best/Worst NFL analysts?

I like both Mike Mayock and Mike Lombardi and think Kiper is a joke.

Thanks for NFL network as I don't watch Es$% much.

I have 2 questions. Does anyone really like Kiper and why do they have 5/6 guys doing TV at the same time? They all talk over one another.
Three is the max that should be on at the same time.

I agree, I think Mayock is really good. Seems to talk sense most of the time

Worst: That former runningback dude from the St Louis Rams - - Kevin Faulk's cousin - -he still stews about his lost luster after SB 36. Everytime he's on TV he looks like he's fighting an ulcer named Belichick (and losing) .

Kiper has no qualifications for his job. He never played football and was never in an NFL front office.

"He’s the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. He goes from being a rookie that nobody is expecting anything from, to taking over with people saying he can’t do it, to winning three Super Bowls....It should already be obvious he’s the greatest quarterback to ever have played. "

How is he any different than a scout or player personnel guy in that respect? There are a number of front office guys never played football beyond Pop Warner or high school level. They just watch tons and tons of film and learn about the game through scouts, coaches and books. Kiper (love him or hate him) has been scouting players, evaluating tape and talking to coaches, GMs and the like for nearly 30 years. I'd say he probably has more experience scouting players than some GMs in the business.

For what it's worth, Pioli, Caserio and Floyd Reese all played college ball. Ernie Accorsi and Mike Tannenbaum (who was a law school graduate) have no football background.

I will never understand why people think Kiper isn't good at his job. He's not an analyst in the traditional "breaking down the game" sense, and he's never pretended to be. I can see why some may not like him, but that dude knows everything about college players.

Mayock is good at what he does -- very diligent in breaking down film. He also brings the understanding of having been a player. Lombardi was a former Oakland GM and Casserly worked for the Texans. Gruden is very good (as in calling it like he sees it) when he wants to be.

Kiper's claim to fame is that he was the original entrepreneur who created the role of TV draft expert based on his prodigious ability to watch 15 to 20 college football game each weekend (on Tape). He is "mr. draft expert" -- full of ceaseless stream of words (opinions or hot air) but not particularly incisive in terms of insight or analyses. McShay is a newcomer who is ESPN's inhouse expert -- at one point handpicked to make Kiper obsolete. Fortunately for Kiper, ESPN finds his reduced price acceptable enough these days to keep him around.
