I'd just add that while there was obviously a lot of attention paid to those areas, not a whole lot of money actually had to shift. Bodden and McGowan are practically steals, and none of the young guys have a huge, unreasonable contract.

Some of these guys will eventually get paid (either here or somewhere else), but it's interesting how quickly and cheaply these areas were reinforced.

I think they are shying away from the STAR players and building safety in numbers. If you can get 2-3 guys on the cheap every year...sign em to 2-3 yr contracts and cut the guys that dont work out...it takes away the number one killer of teams: a injured player with an Albatross contract. I think JM in Denver got this from BB, and trading Cutler away both restocks the team AND affirms his leadership away from STAR players. Think about the STAR players we have signed as FAs...Colvin, Thomas, neither one worth the $$. Better to get 10 JAGs and for every Rodney you get a Biesel, for every Vrabel you get a Gabriel and so on.

You shift money to where it is needed. You don't select where you shift money to.

So much of the game is played in space. Yes, I think it's a good idea. It seems that the dominant defensive players are safeties. Palomaleu, E.Reed, B.Sanders come to mind. Not many teams try to mash you. That said, no reason to cheap out on Big Vince. But, was a good idea to trade Seymour. He would have wanted too much money and isn't as valuable as he used to be.
