we lack anyone who can fire BB up, before that guy was Charlie Wies...
I don't like how Bill puts a muzzle on every man on this team. Has them all speaking cliches and not giving any bulletin board material.
I like a team that runs it mouth, trash talks, is in your face. That's how the Jets were when they came up here and beat us. That's how the Ravens have been when they've beaten us 2 out of 3 times in the postseason since 2009.
They ran their mouths, basically showed the Patriots a lack of respect, and acted like they weren't afraid of the Patriots. I just feel like in all these losses we've been the less physical, less aggressive team, and I think the not-too-high-not-too-low culture that Bill has established is great for the long regular season but isn't as effective in the playoffs.
And I'd love a guy like Pollard even with the 15 yard penalties he takes. His bone crunching hit on Welker that was flagged set the stage for Welker's 3rd down drop in my opinion. And he obviously destroyed Ridley.

I too would like to add a big physical safety to our secondary. Someone to make WR's think twice about going over the middle. Even though I'm probably in the minority, I love TJ McDonald from USC. He's got good size, is a great athlete and can put on a hit. He needs to reign it in a little because he has a history of helmet to helmet penalties, but he would instantly add a physical presence and attitude at the back which we haven't had since Rodney.

That's bad reasoning. Spikes destroyed plenty of guys this season despite his 5.05 speed.
Eh that's not really true. The majority of his destructive hits came on running plays or plays where he was already in front of his man. The Ravens started having success through the air when they started pinpointing our LB's which forced our safeties to move up. It's one of the reasons why some around here made a big deal about Dane Fletcher's loss.

We do desperately need a difference maker at safety - I've been saying that for years. McCourty's fine but he doesn't cause other teams to rethink their game plans or receivers to take a peek before they get smashed. A smart, hard-nosed SS would revolutionize this defense just as Rodney did - the dude who started the thread is quite correct.
A fast, young, big WR, and a fast, young, big SS added to this team just as it stands and we win the SB. It's that simple. The problem is these are two positions BB just can't seem to hit on.

Spikes, Hightower, Mayo, and Wilfork have that attitude, that confident swagger, that physical presence that says "you don't want to mess with me!"
It would be nice to find a safety and a DB with those attributes as well, I admit.
I was thinking about this swagger thing last night. Wilfolk, Mayo, and McCourty are the leaders of the defense. They all are good players and seems like nice guys but we need a few nasty a-holea back there. Remember Rodney, McGinest and Milloy? They were alway pissed off and had a chip on their shoulders.
Spikes has "swagger" but since he isn't of the leaders it doesn't seem to rub off on the other guys.
I would also like a safety that can blitz too. Our defense hasn't been very exotic in terms of blitzing and I think its because of a lack of confidence in our safeties. Get someone that can not only free up our LBers to blitz, but also make plays in the backfield themselves.
