Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is no stranger to keeping the status of a player under wraps ahead of game day, and it appears that will be the case this weekend at quarterback.

But if this had been the Patriots with Brady at QB, this would have been all over the network news.

With seven weeks to go in the 2023 regular season, one thing is starting to become a little more real with each passing day. Bill Belichick may indeed be elsewhere in 2024, and another era may soon be coming to a close for the New England Patriots.

Mac Jones’ benching on Sunday likely signals a change coming at quarterback when the team eventually takes the field again, with the only question being who that might ultimately be.

The Patriots are apparently cleaning out some bad apples as they get set to embark on their final seven games of 2023.

Obviously, today’s game is certainly a big one for the New England Patriots, especially given all the discussion surrounding Bill Belichick’s future.

While the Patriots have gotten a reasonably solid effort week-to-week from their defense, things remain a mess on offense, which had another inconsistent showing last Sunday against Washington.

The Patriots are trying to prevent a three-game losing streak ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Colts, and it sounds like their secondary might be a little short-handed this weekend.

Listening to head coach Bill Belichick after Sunday’s game, it’s interesting that he appears to be continuing as if his team is 7-2 and not 2-7, maintaining the same approach as he has despite the fact his team is in serious trouble.

As Patriots fans continue to endure what’s been the team’s most difficult year in nearly two decades, ownership also appears to feel some of that frustration.

The Patriots should be about losing. Play just well enough to compete, but just bad enough to lose.

Coming into this game I didn’t know a lot about the 3-5 Washington Commanders team.  All I knew was that QB Sam Howell is an up-and-coming QB; Washington had traded away both their young Defensive Ends, and according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Commanders are interested in trading for Bill Belichick.

With Josh McDaniels now having been fired out in Las Vegas, it’s hard not to wonder if that move might have an impact on what we may see happen here in New England moving forward at quarterback.

With Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne sidelined, the New England Patriots are going to need some serious help in replacing his production.

Bourne has a torn ACL. He’s been Jones’ most reliable receiver this season with 37 catches, 406 yards and four TDs. 

This was no different than the bogus call last season when Rhamondre Stevenson’s forward progress was stopped, yet a Raiders defender stripped him of the ball.  The sideline parabolic microphones pick up everything, including the players swearing.

Despite some good moments from the Patriots in this game, including inducing two turnovers by the Dolphins, the Patriot offense did not make enough plays like they did last week and the Miami offense is way too much for the Patriot defense to handle. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle each caught long touchdown passes as the Dolphins throttled the Patriots 31-17 on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.
