One interesting bit of news on Monday was a report by Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, who reported that free agent safety Kyle Dugger is apparently unhappy with having been hit with the transition tag.
One thing that was interesting to go back and look at was the 2018 NFL Draft, with the duo of Eliot Wolf and Alfonzo Highsmith both handling the reboot for the Cleveland Browns, which is obviously a similar situation to what’s now happening here in New England.
The NFLPA released a report card for 2024 on Wednesday and there was one notable grade that stood out when it came to how the players apparently viewed Bill Belichick in his final season.
The first press conference for Patriots Director of Scouting Eliot Wolf was held on Tuesday down in Indianapolis as Wolf addressed a variety of topics, with the plans at quarterback obviously being a key talking point on Tuesday.
The Patriots are obviously embarking on a new era following the departure this offseason of Bill Belichick, and the subsequent hiring of Jerod Mayo. That means the old way of doing things is certainly out the window, and it’s going to be interesting to see what that means from a personnel standpoint.
Raise your hand if you’d love to know what’s going through 49ers GM John Lynch’s mind this morning.
As it currently stands, Elliot Wolf has been the person most involved as the club began building its coaching staff. Wolf, who is the lone person in the building with any real contacts outside New England, has seemingly led the way as the club has rounded out its offensive staff.
During last offseason, the New England Patriots saw Jakobi Meyers depart to the Las Vegas Raiders after the club wasn’t able reach an agreement to keep him in the fold.
However, it sounds like the Patriots drew a line in the sand, with Meyers opting to head off to the desert.
Bill O’Brien quietly departed the New England area this offseason to accept the job as offensive coordinator with Ohio State, but it sounds like he may not end up ever calling a single play for the Buckeyes.
Another Belichick is parting ways with the New England Patriots, with Steve Belichick reportedly set to take a position in the college ranks.
The Patriots finished off what could be their most significant addition to their coaching staff on Thursday, surprising everyone by hiring former NFL quarterback Alex Van Pelt as their offensive coordinator.
Coming off of the news the Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots were parting ways several weeks ago, it felt like the only question was where and not when Belichick would be back leading a team in 2024.
The New England Patriots have been in need of some new energy in the coaching ranks on special teams, and the recent signing of Los Angeles Rams coordinator Jeremy Springer certainly provides that.
Anyone watching the AFC Championship games this weekend was reminded of one key thing after watching the Baltimore Ravens go down on Sunday. Being able to handle pressure in big moments will be the biggest question facing Jerod Mayo in the coming years, as will whoever ultimately ends up under center here in New England.
Following his departure from the New England Patriots, there seemed to be little doubt that given the amount of openings that were continuing to become available around the league, Bill Belichick would be on someone’s sideline in 2024. The only question would just be where he’d end up.
