2025 Patriots Draft: New England Snags a Kicker in Round 6

After a season where things were inconsistent at kicker for the New England Patriots in 2024, the team addressed that need in the sixth round on Saturday.
The Patriots selected University of Miami kicker Andres Borregales with the 182nd overall pick, and by all accounts, it seems to be a solid selection.
He’s a player who got better as his college career went on, finishing 2024 with his best season as a member of the Hurricanes.
He hit 94.7% of his kicks last season, finishing an impressive 18-of-19, on his field goals while finishing a perfect 62-of-62 on his extra points. He was perfect on every attempt from 39 yards or less, while hitting 5-of-6 from 40-49yds and 2-of-2 from 50+, including one from 56-yards.
Watching him at his pro day, the ball absolutely explodes off his feet, with Borregalas drilling a 65 yard kick at one point during the workout.
He also got better in key moments as his career went on, including a game last season where he hit three long kicks of 47, 50, and 48-yards, the latter of which helped forced overtime.
He was a player who his teammates absolutely loved, with Borregales getting a reputation as a reliable clutch kicker for Miami, which is definitely something that New England has been lacking in recent years.
He seems like a pretty level-headed player, telling the Miami Herald last season that he just tries to approach every kick the same.
“I think of every kick the same, even when we’re talking about a game-winning or game-tying kick,” Borregales told the newspaper. “I just have a mentality that I only get one shot. That’s how it is as a kicker and you just have to go into it like that.”
The challenge now will be playing in cold weather at Gillette Stadium, with the hope that Borregalas can continue his success here in New England.
