NBA star Lebron James has certainly had an incredible career, with many wondering where he stands when it comes to fellow basketball legend Michael Jordan.
However, when it comes to North Carolina native and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, there’s no question in his mind who remains the better player.
Maye appeared on Good Morning Football on Tuesday and was asked where he stood when it came to that discussion.
The rookie said that, having been raised in North Carolina, and with Jordan having attended his Alma Mater before he began his career in Pro Basketball, there was no question in his mind of what side of the fence he was on.
“I grew up watching LeBron and what a player he is. It can’t take me away from my roots,” said Maye. “Michael Jordan is a North Carolina guy, and I think it’s the easy answer for me with Michael Jordan.”
With Maye’s season having come to an end, he also said he plans on splitting time between New England and working out in Chapel Hill this offseason as he prepares for his sophomore campaign.
“It’s really the first time in my life you got four months off, so I’m trying to stay in shape,” said Maye. “I’ll be back in Chapel Hill. Obviously, that’s where I went to college, and I have a lot of guys working out of there to throw to and work out at. I’ll be back home with my parents a little bit, but I think I may focus on getting back up there in New England. I’ll mix in being up there, so probably between North Carolina home and New England.”
That certainly sets up an interesting dynamic. Young players often return to where they went to school to work out before they return for offseason workouts, but in this case, Maye’s former team is now coached by Bill Belichick, who took over as the head coach at the University of North Carolina.
Maye will get a little bit of game action tonight as he’ll be appearing with some fellow NFL stars on the P & G Battle of the Paddles tonight at 7pm on Complex’s YouTube Channel.
