Here’s what Jerod Mayo had to say following the New England Patriots’ 40-7 loss at Gillette Stadium on Sunday:

(Broadcast was cut off at the beginning – and portions were omitted. Here’s the part that was available to be transcribed:)

OPENING STATEMENT:

“…Just the lack of execution. Look, that’s a good football team, and they’re a well-coached football team. We just didn’t play well enough in any phase of the game. No complementary football. That’s what you get. Fire away.”

On how disappointing and frustrating today’s effort was coming off last week’s performance in Buffalo:

“It’s very disappointing, and it comes back to consistency. I mean, that’s what it is, consistency.”

On the fact he said on the radio that Antonio Gibson would start at running back, and then Ramondre Stevenson was on the field and what went into the last-minute change:

“That was just a coach’s decision. Coach’s decision.”

On if something changed from the time he did the interview to the game, if there was a miscommunication:

“I understand your question, Mike [Reiss]. Look, it’s a coach’s decision. So I’ll leave it at that.”

On the fact it looks like the defense has regressed and if he has the confidence that this defensive staff is suited to develop this defense next season:

“Look, I have nothing but confidence in the coaching staff, and we’ll get better, and it’s part of what we have to do. I have to look at the film to see what some of those things that you’re talking about happening on the field, but we got to get better.”

On the fact Drake Maye had to be evaluated in the first quarter and down 30 in the fourth quarter, he was still out there for two drives and if there was any thought of pulling him down 30:

“Again, look, we’re trying to develop a quarterback, and he wants to play.  He’s a competitor and went out there.”

On if he feels like he’s under any pressure and if he feels like he and his coordinators are coaching for their jobs:

“Look, I’m always under pressure, and it’s been that way for a very long time, not just when I became the head coach of the Patriots. I’m okay. Again, I always do what’s best for the team.”

On if he was cognisant of the chants by the fans toward him at the end of the game:

“Look, you hear those things, but at the same time, they paid to sit in the seats and we got to play better. If we play better, we don’t have to hear that stuff.”

On if he can describe the play where there was the fumble [to Demario Douglas] and what was the design of that play:

“Yeah. Look, I have to watch the film to see what exactly happened, but just the exchange, obviously, was the problem there. It was a turnover.”

On the fact his consistent message each week has been ‘We have to get better.  We have to get better.  We’ve got to pick things up.’ and the fact it looks like it’s trending in the wrong direction, and if he sees it that way, and at what point he feels like he needs to see it get better:

“To me, every game is unique. It’s a game in itself. And look, I said at the beginning of this press conference, it’s about consistency, which we are not right now.”

On what he saw on the field goal where some players were signaling that the field goal wasn’t good:

“To me, it didn’t matter what anyone saw. They look at all the scoring plays and they called it good, and you just got to be able to move forward.”

On if he sees this being more of a talent issue or a coaching issue:

“Yeah, I have full confidence in the staff. I have full confidence in the players in there. I think, again, it just comes down to being consistent across the board.”

When Jerod checks the film he will see that they were consistent. Unfortunately they were consistently bad, as they have been all season.
