This is a deep draft for Offensive Tackles and Wide Receivers.  First round talent for Cornerbacks and Edge Rushers is also plentiful.  I am predicting there will not be any trades in the 1st round unless MIN, DEN or some other team gets silly and offers the Patriots a Godfather offer.   Las Vegas may include DaVante Adams in a deal if they can secure one of the top 3 QBs.  Adams is expensive and on the other side of 30, so he is expendable.

CHI       Caleb Williams           QB         USC – He is the consensus #1 pick.

WAS    Jayden Daniels            QB         LSU – Classic misinformation rumors that Daniels doesn’t want to play in WAS!

NE         Drake Maye                    QB         NC – NE doesn’t get their Godfather “I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse” offer and settles for Maye.  He will need a full year of tutelage and the rebuild will crawl on for a few years longer.  Don’t expect some instant gratification.

ARI        Marvin Harrison Jr    WR        Ohio St – Terrific athlete and will be a star in this league.

LAC      Malik Nabers                WR        LSU – Nabers is a hair behind Harrison and will be a great target for Herbert.  I expect LAC to double dip on Receivers.

NYG     JJ McCarthy                   QB         Michigan – Giants get their man and don’t have to give up any draft capital to get him.

TEN      Joe Alt                                OT          Notre Dame – As far as I am concerned, he is the star of this draft.

ATL        Rome Odunze              WR        Washington – Another stud WR.

CHI       JC Latham                       OT          Alabama – Kinda surprised by CHI taking Latham this high.

NYJ       Olumuyima Fashanu OT       Penn St – I would have taken him over Latham.  This helps the Jets and their poor      OL.  Plug and Play LT.

MIN      Taliese Fuaga               OT          Oregon St – Thought they would have gone WR here.

DEN     Brock Bowers               TE          Georgia – Lose out on QB but take the Best Athlete available.

LV          Quinyon Mitchell       CB         Toledo – Best CB most fans don’t know.  Shined in the Senior Bowl against top competition.

NO        Dallas Turner                ED         Alabama – Best pass rusher and fills need for Saints.

IND       Brian Thomas               WR        LSU – Another WR goes in the 1st and a LSU players as well.

SEA      Jared Verse                    ED         Florida St – Now starts the run on Edge players.

JAX       Terrion Arnold              CB         Alabama – 1st of two Bama CBs

CIN       Troy Fautanu                 OT          Washington – Another stud OT.  Thought the Patriots could get him.

LAC      Byron Murphy               ED         Texas – 3rd of 6 EDGE players to go in the 1st.

PIT        Cooper DeJean           CB         Iowa – PFF has him ranked #8 overall.

MIA       Graham Barton           OT          Duke – Don’t think he will be a Tackle but end up at Guard.

PHI       Laiatu Latu                     ED         UCLA – was unblockable at the Senior Bowl

MIN      Nate Wiggins                 CB         Clemson – Ran a blistering 4.28 40 but at 6’1” 173 is slight and doesn’t play as well as his athleticism says he should.

DAL      Amarius Mims              OT         Georgia – Solid Tackle should be in league for a long time.

ARI        Kool-Aid McKinstry  CB         Alabama – Coming into 2023 season he was thought to be the top cornerback.

TB          Adonai Mitchell          WR        Texas – Is he N’Keal Harry II?

ARI        Chop Robinson            ED         Penn St – Extremely athletic edge rusher

BUF      Darius Robinson         ED         Missouri – This Robinson played in the SEC and is little more battle tested.

DET       Xavier Worthy              WR        Texas – I just don’t trust the Texas WRs.  He has got the speed.

BAL       Tony Franklin                 WR        Oregon – Tremendous Junior season in 2023 with 81 catches 1343 yards and 14 TDs

SF          Tyler Guyton                  OT          Oklahoma – Massive Left Tackle with huge wingspan.  He engulfs pass rushers.

KC         Ladd McConkey          WR        Georgia – This is a crime to let Mahomes get a WR this good with the last pick in the 1st round.  He can’t be covered and will be the Offensive Rookie of the Year if not All-Pro.

About Mark Morse

Merrimack Valley native and lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. My earliest memories of the Patriots were attending as a child with my dad, the off-season practice at Phillips Academy. I was at the Patriots game at Harvard Stadium in 1970 where Bob “Harpo” Gladieux was called out of the stands by the stadium announcer over the PA to play in the game. Analyzing the draft since ESPN first started to televise it in 1980 and former writer for the Lowell Sun Newspaper.
