The Patriots may have some questions along their offensive line, but they managed to take care of an important player on Monday night.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, New England agreed to terms on an extension for free agent offensive lineman Michael Onwenu.

The deal is reportedly for 3-years and is worth $57 million, including $38 million guaranteed.  It also reportedly includes a $22.5 million signing bonus.

Onwenu has been solid at right guard and effectively salvaged the season after stepping in and stabilizing the right side of the line at tackle.

His return ensures that the club has one less thing to worry about on the right side, with Onwenu performing exceptionally well in 2023 in a season where both of their quarterbacks floundered.

His move to right tackle radically changed the overall outlook, even despite the fact both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe didn’t play up to the level they needed them to.  Still, even despite that, their execution as a whole improved dramatically, with Onwenu establishing himself as a key piece on an offensive line that spent much of last season with little continuity.

The team recently added Chukwuma Okorafor, who is expected to compete for a spot at left tackle but it wouldn’t be surprise if they’re not done addressing that position.  Reports on Monday seemed to indicate the Patriots will either sign another player, as well as add additional tackles next month in the draft.
