Bills Fire Offensive Coordinator After Loss to Broncos

Frustration is starting to set in out in Buffalo, and it appears one domino fell on Tuesday after Monday night’s surprising loss against the Broncos.
Quarterback Josh Allen continued to be reckless with the football, finishing the night with a fumble and two interceptions, one of which came on their end of the field and led to a field goal for Denver right before the end of the first half.
With the offense sputtering in recent weeks, the Bills have apparently decided to make a change. According to Adam Schefter, Buffalo made a big move on Tuesday by going in a different direction at offensive coordinator.
Schefter reports that Ken Dorsey is out following Monday night’s loss, with quarterbacks coach Joe Brady now set to handle the duties in the interem with seven games remaining.
However, what happens from here with Allen will bear watching. Sean McDermott had some strong words for his quarterback following the loss, emphasizing Allen’s issues turning the ball over absolutely needs to change moving forward.
“I think he’s played well at times and then at times he hasn’t and you can’t turn the ball over,” McDermott said, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “So, we’ve got to figure that out.”
Monday night saw Buffalo give the football away on back-to-back drives to start the contest, with James Cook fumbling the ball on the team’s first offensive snap of the game, while Allen was picked off on a 3rd-and-4 play in Denver territory on the ensuing series.
The Bills were fortunate the Broncos didn’t capitalize, but it doesn’t change the fact it squandered two potential opportunities for points, which were clearly at a premium Monday night.
While McDermott isn’t wrong as he references his team’s ball security, it doesn’t change the fact the coaching staff should shoulder some of the blame for how this one finished.
The Bills would have still walked away winners had McDermott ensured there weren’t 12 men on the field as the Broncos hustled out their field goal unit at the end of Monday night’s game.
Instead, after Denver kicker Will Lutz missed the potential 41-yard game-winner wide right, he ended up with a shot at redemption after Buffalo was flagged for the penalty.
He delivered, drilling the ensuing 36-yard attempt right down the middle. That sent everyone home frustrated as Buffalo now sits at 5-5 on the season, and their playoff hopes dwindling.
As for where Allen is at mentally, he told reporters after the game, “Yeah, I’m still confident,” adding, “But it’s no secret the clock is ticking. Gotta have some urgency now.”
