The timing of Jack Jones’ hamstring injury following the charges being dropped recently seemed a little questionable, but it sounds like there’s indeed a little more to that story.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the second-year defensive back sustained a “freak injury” at practice ahead of last week, which is what landed him on injured reserve to begin the 2023 season.

“I also wanted to follow up, guys, on one thing.  I know we talked last week, we were talking about Jack Jones and I told you I wanted to dig around on that,” said Reiss during an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich on Monday.  “I did and I do want to tell you it was like a freak injury at practice, that’s what I was told.  And a significant hamstring pull.  No surgery, I’m told, on that but, like significant to the point that, like, midseason [he’ll potentially be back].”

Reiss added that it was just a bizarre circumstance that will see him out for a while, similar to what happened with Jonathan Jones ahead of this week’s game, where an ankle injury sidelined him.

“Same thing with Jonathan Jones, their cornerback,” said Reiss.  “Not the same turntable, he could be back much sooner.  But like just a freak thing in practice, where, [he] turned his ankle, and obviously he wasn’t out there for last night’s game.”

It’s been a tough run for New England’s secondary when it comes to players with the last name Jones, as Marcus Jones left Sunday night’s game against the Dolphins with a shoulder injury.  His status is now in question heading into next Sunday’s game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
