The New England Patriots lost their most productive receiver earlier on Tuesday when Jakobi Meyers decided to go to Las Vegas, leaving them in need of someone to hopefully pick up the slack.
It appears they’ve found their man.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are expected to sign Kansas City Chiefs free agent WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, which at least adds a productive player to a group that still has holes to fill.
Smith-Schuster, who hit free agency for the second-straight offseason, finished last season with 78 receptions for 933 yards and three touchdowns during his one season in Kansas City, which ultimately ended in a Super Bowl run for the former Steelers wideout.
The 26-year old caught 10 passes for 89 yards in the postseason, including a team-leading 7 receptions for 53 yards in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia.
He signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs last offseason after leaving the Steelers via free agency, and it appears he’ll have a new home this year in New England.
His addition hopefully helps replace Meyers’s production, although he’s still not the explosive player the club is still missing.
Whether or not he’s the only domino to fall remains to be seen, but for now, fans can at least breathe a little easier knowing the depth chart isn’t quite as empty as it was coming into the day.
