The accolades keep coming for New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon and Special Teamer Marcus Jones for their 2022 season performances.
On Monday, the Pro Football Writers Association of America (PFWA) revealed its annual All-NFL, All-AFC, and All-NFC teams.
Jones received spots on the All-NFL and All-AFC teams for his efforts as a punt returner. In 2022, the rookie led the NFL in total punt return yards and punt return yard average. He was also one of just three players in the NFL this season to return a punt for a touchdown.
Jones’ memorable, game-winning 84-yard return for a touchdown against the New York Jets in Week 11 was the longest returned punt in the league this season.
In addition to his work on special teams, Jones displayed impressive versatility and saw snaps on offense and defense. He has the unique distinction of scoring touchdowns in all three phases of the sport in a single season. He recorded his first career touchdown reception in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills and a 69-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. No other player in the Super Bowl era has accomplished the feat.
As for Judon, for the second consecutive season, he was named to the PFWA’s All-AFC team. This past season, Judon set a career-high in sacks with 15.5, good enough for fourth in the NFL. He will also participate in the first-ever Pro Bowl games next month in Las Vegas.
Fumble caused by Matthew Judon and recovered by Marcus Jones! Incredible heart being shown by this #Patriots defense after going 22-0 down. #ForeverNE
