Burrow Calls Patriots’ Judon “Best Trash-Talker in the League”Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was recently asked who the best trash talker in the league was and a member of the New England Patriots apparently took that category.

Burrow revealed during a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast that Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon holds that honor, which actually made Burrow become a fan.

While Burrow has yet to face Judon as a member of the Patriots, it was a meeting that came against the Ravens, Judon’s previous team, during the quarterback’s rookie season that stood out after going against him.

“Matt Judon – Patriots. Best trash-talker in the league,” said Burrow. “I only played Baltimore one time my rookie year because I got hurt. He – I mean even if it’s not a play that he did anything – I mean, he’s talking. And I love that.”

“Unfortunately, we stunk that year, so I couldn’t really say anything back. But I think we play the Patriots this year, so that’ll be fun. … (Quarterback Mac Jones) just fit right in to what they were trying to do.”

The game Burrow was referring to was their Week 5 meeting on the road in 2020, which saw the then-rookie quarterback finish that outing 19-of-30 for 183-yards and an interception during an ugly 27-3 loss in Baltimore.

That contest featured a couple of frustrating moments from Burrow.  After throwing an interception deep in his own end late in the first quarter that led to a Ravens touchdown, he suffered another big miscue on their ensuing possession.

After driving his team out to midfield, Burrow seemingly avoided another interception on a free play that was called back after Judon was penalized for being offsides.  However, on the next play, Burrow was sacked by fellow rookie Patrick Queen, his former teammate at LSU, who forced Burrow to fumble and Baltimore recovered it, which ended the drive.

Queen ended up with a big game, including another huge play late after he recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, which he ran back 53-yards for the touchdown.  That put the Ravens up 27-0 and ended any hope the Bengals had of trying to get themselves back into the game.

Burrow and Queen apparently had a bit of a rivalry even as teammates:

Meanwhile, Judon was relentless all afternoon, coming after Burrow throughout the contest while getting called twice for defensive offsides.

The two players will meet up in what should be a key match-up in Week 16 at Gillette Stadium.  At that point, depending on their respective records, it’s entirely possible that the game could have potential playoff implications for both clubs.

That game is currently scheduled on Christmas Eve with a 1:00 pm start.
