The Patriots made a few internal changes when it comes to player jersey numbers, which they announced on Monday morning.

Some of the notable mentions include the fact that veteran cornerback Malcolm Butler will wear #4 this season, with Butler previously having worn #21 during his original stint with the club.  That number is now currently held by safety Adrian Phillips.

While this one had already been mentioned by newcomer DeVante Parker in an exchange with Julian Edelman on Twitter that saw Edelman post a sad gif in a Tweet he later deleted, Parker will don #11 for the team when he takes the field in the coming months.  Obviously, that number was worn by Edelman, who retired following the 2020 season.

Kicker Quinn Nordin will now wear #13 after wearing #3 during the preseason in 2021.  The #3 will now instead move to safety Jabrill Peppers, with Peppers having previously worn #21 with the Giants.

Peppers had also worn #5 in college during his time at Michigan but that number is currently held by backup quarterback, Brian Hoyer.

Meanwhile, veteran running back Ty Montgomery will wear #14, while receiver Malcolm Perry will wear #19.

Defensive back Myles Bryant will now wear #27, taking over that number from the departed J.C. Jackson.  Bryant wore #41 in 2021.

Linebacker Mack Wilson will wear #30, which had previously been worn by last year’s practice squad safety, Sean Davis.  Wilson wore #51 in Cleveland, which is currently held by Ronnie Perkins.

Terrance Mitchell will wear #39, which had previously been worn by D’Angelo Ross.

Drew Desjarlais will wear #61, while Arlington Hambright will wear #74.

Tre Nixon will reportedly wear #82 after wearing #87 last preseason, with that number now moving to tight end Matt Sokol.  Obviously, that number is well known having been previously worn by Rob Gronkowski.
