On Monday, the New England Patriots announced in a press release that former LB Clayton Weishuhn had passed away on April 22nd, 2022. He was 62 years old.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, Weishuhn died in a motor vehicle accident near his hometown of Wall, Texas.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigators told the San Angelo Standard-Times that “Weishuhn was driving his pickup truck on a local road Friday night when ‘for unknown reasons’ his truck drifted into a ditch on one side of the road. He then “over-corrected skidding across the roadway into the west ditch, and into a dirt field.” The vehicle then rolled over multiple times. Weishuhn, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.”

Weishuhn, a third-round draft pick by the Patriots in the 1982 NFL Draft from Angelo State (TX), played in 30 games with 26 starts during his five seasons with the Patriots. He was a member of the 1985 AFC Championship team but did not play in Super Bowl XX due to injury.

In 1983, Weishuhn started in 16 games and set a Patriots franchise single-season record with 229 total tackles. The mark still stands to this day.
