The three-year run of the McCourty twins defending the New England Patriots backfield together is over.

This past Thursday, cornerback Jason McCourty signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Before the 2018 season, the Patriots landed Jason in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and it allowed him to play with his brother Devin for the first time in their professional careers.

When the Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, the McCourty’s became the first set of twins to ever win a Super Bowl together. In that game, Jason made a memorable pass-breakup in the second half in what looked like a sure touchdown by Brandin Cooks.

Over his three seasons in Foxboro, Jason started 33 of the 44 games he played and recorded two interceptions. During his final season with the Patriots, Jason was named a team captain. He spent the previous nine years of his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.

Over the twins shared social media accounts Saturday, Jason shared a goodbye message to the Patriots organization and fans.

“Thank you to RKK (Robert Kraft) and Coach Belichick for giving me a chance to wear the Patriots uniform,” McCourty wrote. “For the past three seasons I’ve gotten a chance to live out a childhood dream, playing alongside my brother while winning a championship and building lifelong friendships. Thank you to everyone within the New England Patriots organization.”
