The Patriots had a clear hole at tight end in 2020 but Bill Belichick took an additional step at patching it on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots have agreed to terms on a 4-year, $50 million deal with Titans free-agent tight end Jonnu Smith.

The deal also reportedly includes $31.25 million guaranteed Drew Rosenhaus, Smith’s agent, told Schefter.

Rosenhaus is no stranger to the Patriots, as the agent also represented long-time tight end, Rob Gronkowski.  That likely helped the negotiations since if Smith had any doubts about their QB situation and his potential production, Rosenhaus probably let Smith know how much the team values the position in their offense.

Smith was terrific in 2020, hauling in 41 receptions for 448-yards and 8 touchdowns last season.  He joins last year’s draft choices Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene rounding out what is now a pretty good trio if the two second-year players can take a step forward in 2021.
