It appears former Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi is headed back to his alma mater to get into coaching.

The former University of Arizona alum will reportedly be joining head coach Jedd Fisch, who departed the Patriots this offseason to take the job with the Wild Cats.  Fisch was the team’s quarterback’s coach after being signed just over a year ago prior to the 2020 season.

The school announced Bruschi’s addition on Monday, with the University excited at the opportunity to bring their former player back to hopefully be a part of building up their program.

Bruschi will reportedly hold the title of “senior advisor to the head coach.”

Bruschi also later confirmed the move on Twitter, saying he was “very excited” while also pointing out that “it’s personal”.

The move is interesting because Bruschi had said back in December that he had inquired about the coaching vacancy but had opted to remove himself, telling WEEI.com that he was enjoying his time to watch his wife Heidi coach, along with watching his sons play their respective sports in college.

“Yeah, I was considering it over the weekend,” said Bruschi at the time.  “I made a lot of calls, did a lot of research, did some things, because it’s the one job.  You know, it’s back in my alma mater, the University of Arizona.”

“I think right now, what it came down to, for now, it’s sort of my turn to watch.  It’s my turn to watch Heidi coach volleyball, watch my boys play lacrosse at Endicott [College] and football down at Bishop Feehan, so that’s where I am in my life right now and although it was intriguing for me to think about and talk about a little bit and then start the process a little, it was something that I’m not going to pursue.”

Now the question is whether or not he’ll keep his promise to Christian Fauria, who Bruschi said at the time would be going with him if the opportunity ever came up.

“I don’t know about you, Lou,” said Bruschi, when Merloni joked about the opportunity to be Bruschi’s assistant. “But [Christian] Fuaria’s coming with me.”

No word yet if he’ll be willing to stick to his statement and take the current WEEI co-host with him.
