On Monday, one of Boston’s most renowned and fan favorite sports athletes called it a career after 14 seasons.
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia announced his retirement from professional baseball after dealing with lingering knee injuries the past three years.
Following the news, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman shared a tribute to Pedroia over his Twitter page.
“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog”, Edelman tweeted out alongside a photo.

During his Red Sox tenure, Pedroia won three World Series championships and was named the America League MVP in 2008. He played in over 1,500 career games, earning four All-Star selections along the way. Following David Ortiz, Pedroia became a cornerstone player for the franchise.
As for Edelman’s own playing future, while his retirement may also be on the horizon, he intends to play in 2021.
