New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty isn’t looking to hang up his football cleats for good quite yet.

On Thursday, McCourty told WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show that he is planning on returning to the team in 2021 and not retire.

“I think it’s always tough when you get down to the end of the year to start talking about the future, but for right now I’m still enjoying football,” McCourty said.“I plan on playing next year. Just trying to finish out these two games the best way I can, and then when the offseason hits, evaluate and all that stuff. But still feel pretty healthy and love going out there and competing.”

Earlier this year, McCourty signed a two-year, $23 million contract extension with the Patriots that he intends to complete on the field.

Over his NFL career, McCourty has become one of the most durable and consistent players on the Patriots, he has started all 14 games this season and should he start the remaining two, he will have started every regular-season game for the Patriots dating back to 2014.

Since his drafting out of Rutgers in 2010, McCourty has started at least 14 games in every season of his career.

McCourty has been named a team captain each year since 2011, over that span he has earned two Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro’s awards, he was also named to the 2010’s Patriots All-Decade Team in April, appearing in five Super Bowls and winning three.

In 2020, McCourty has recorded two interceptions, 56 total tackles, and scored two touchdowns.
