According to a report by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Saturday, wide receiver Julian Edelman will be placed on the New England Patriots injured reserve list
Edelman underwent surgery on his knee earlier this week and according to head coach Bill Belichick will be out “at least three games”.
“We’ll see how the return goes,” Belichick told reporters on Friday. “I mean, I don’t think this is a season-ending situation, but we’ll see. I’m not a doctor. We’ll see how it goes here. Hopefully he’ll be back. I know he has worked awfully hard and nobody’s more competitive than Julian is. So, he’ll do everything he can to be back out there and we’ll just take it day by day at the process and we’ll see how it goes.”
Through six games this season, Edelman has 21 receptions on 39 targets for 315 yards with zero touchdowns and just eight receptions for 79 yards in the last four games.
Over Instagram Friday afternoon, Edelman reacted to the news with optimism moving forward.
“Minor setback ⏩ major comeback #ToughTimesDontLastToughPeopleDo”, Edeman wrote.
Heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Buffalo Bills, both Edelman and N’Keal Harry (concussion) will be unavailable for Cam Newton.
The Patriots wide receiver depth chart will consist of Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski and Isaiah Zuber.
Zuber was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Saturday evening.
