A week after testing positive for COVID-19, New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore shared some encouraging optimism Monday.
In a video posting to Instagram featuring highlights from his performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, Gilmore wrote that he is “ready to be back in action.”
As of this time there have been no official changes to the Patriots COVID-19 reserve list.
Presently the reserve list consists of Gilmore, Cam Newton, Bill Murray, and Byron Cowart. Cowart tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, forcing a scheduling change.
The Patriots will play the Denver Broncos next Sunday and had their bye week switched to this past weekend as a result.
According to NFL COVID-19 safety protocols, Gilmore can come off the reserve list if he remains asymptomatic, and produces two negative tests with 24 hours in between.
Gilmore could also make his return 10 days after his initial positive test, which would mark a return on Friday, pending the team physician’s approval.
According to cornerback Jason McCourty, Gilmore was “feeling fine” on Saturday.
For now, the Patriots are off to start the week and will reportedly return to “normal operations” on Wednesday.
