Even in the middle of August, the longstanding rivalry between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots rages on.

On Twitter Wednesday, former Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson and former Colts head coach Tony Dungy got into a rather entertaining back and forth regarding the use of artificial crowd noise in empty NFL stadiums this fall.

The exchange began when Dungy responded to a Watson reply to an Adam Schefter tweet about the NFL considering a league-wide policy that would enable artificial fan sound to be heard in stadiums.

Watson joking replied “RCA Dome” in reference to old allegations of the Colts piping in crowd noise during a matchup between the two teams in 2007.

Catching wind of the tweet, Dungy used the opportunity to praise Colts fans for being loud, going as far as saying they should be the ones recorded.

Watson would fire back stating Dungy’s Colts actually used fake crowd noise a year earlier during the 2006 AFC Championship, a game the Colts would comeback to win despite the Patriots leading at halftime 21-3.

The banter would end with Dungy reminding Watson of the final result and Watson left wondering what could have been.

In the end, the Colts were later cleared of any wrongdoing by the NFL later on that season.

However back in January, even Tom Brady expressed his thoughts on the RCA Dome’s crowd noise history on “Peyton’s Places”.

Regardless of what might have or might not have happened, there is still no love lost between these two rivals.
