Former New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk is back in the game of football.

On Wednesday, Louisiana State University announced that Faulk was named the Tiger’s running backs coach for the 2020 season.

Faulk played all four years at LSU from 1995-1998, becoming the schools all time leader in rushing yards with 4,557 and rushing touchdowns at 46.

In 1999, Faulk was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round (46th overall).

Faulk went on to play his entire 13 year career with the Patriots, winning three Super Bowl championships, earned a place in the team hall of fame (2016) and on the 50th anniversary team.

Nicknamed the “swiss army knife” due to his versatility by Robert Kraft, Faulk scored 33 touchdowns (16 rushing, 15 receiving, 2 kickoff returns) and holds the franchise record for all-purpose yards (12,349) and kickoff return yards (4,098).

Faulk retired after the 2011 NFL season.

In January 2018, Faulk joined the LSU football staff as Director of Player Development, working with LSU student-athletes on their academic direction, social development and overall quality of life.

“The day I graduated high school I knew I wanted to be a coach,” Faulk said following the announcement.

“The coaches I had growing up meant so much to me and the community, and I knew I wanted to be that guy. To coach at my alma mater is the best thing I could ever hope for. I wear the purple and gold with pride every day, and I am ready to get going to help win another national championship.”
