There was a lot of discussion on Wednesday after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly suffered an injury to his throwing hand, leading to some concern heading into Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The severity isn’t known, with reports saying that he suffered the injury after accidentally having a player run into him during practice and jamming his throwing hand. Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported that X-Rays afterward reportedly showed good news, with no severe injury suffered from the incident.

But Brady’s been down this road before, having suffered an injury to his throwing hand against the Jets in 2013 that derailed a potential victory down at MetLife Stadium.

Brady’s hand was grabbed and had the football stripped away by then defensive end Quinton Coples, yanking his fingers back as the quarterback released the football.  Brady was picked off on the ensuing play after misfiring a throw to Rob Gronkowski that was thrown just behind him, which the Jets returned for a touchdown.

After finishing 11-of-18 (61%) for 102yds in the first half, Brady’s accuracy diminished and he finished the final two quarters completing 11-of-28 (39%) for 126yds and his interception.

He struggled the following week against Miami and was erratic in the first half after the Patriots managed just 3 points. But he eventually fought through it and had a big second half, leading the Patriots to a 27-17 come-from-behind win.

Patriots fans can only hope that’s the quarterback we see this Sunday against the Jaguars, as no matter how good a passer a quarterback may be, hand injuries are certainly ones that can be problematic even for the best players. Hopefully, Brady won’t have that issue this weekend.
