Brady Was More Focused on Family Than Goodell After Super Bowl WinBob Donnan - USA TODAY Sports

A lot had been built up about Tom Brady being handed the trophy by the commissioner had the Patriots won Super Bowl LI, and on Sunday night, it ended up being a little more anti-climactic, although for a different reason.

Coming off the biggest comeback in NFL history, Brady was emotional after the game and by the time he was up on the stage to receive the trophy, he told WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan that he was less interested in his interaction with Goodell and more focused on trying to spend time with the people who really mattered in his life.  His family.

“He just said ‘Congratulations’ and ‘Good game’ and I just said, ‘Thank you.’,” Brady told WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan on Monday during his weekly interview.

“There was so much going on, there were so many people.  I was actually trying to look for my family the whole time because I knew they were coming down there and everyone else was kind of around.”

Brady’s mother was photographed hugging her son’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, after the win in what was one of the most memorable scenes of the evening.  It was also a reminder of what the victory meant to Brady following what has been a long  year personally for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

“It was a cool experience to have my family down there,” said Brady. “It was pretty magical.”

Brady did go on to say that his mom is doing better, which is certainly good news, although it sounds like she still has a long way to go.

“Mom’s doing better…Mom’s doing better,” Brady told WEEI’s Kirk & Callhan on Monday.  “She’s been through a lot, my dad’s been through a lot.  It’s been a really hard year for them.  They’ve had a lot of support from their friends and my sisters, who have been out there looking after them.  Our prayers are with her and she’s…she’s the best mom in the world.  It was nice to win for her, nice for her to be there.”

“She didn’t make it back to a game all season, it was so hard for them, but I just wanted her to try to get her rest.  She’s just been going through a lot, a lot of intensive treatment.  But the prognosis is good.  She’s not quite through it yet, but hopefully there was some healing energy from our game last night.”

“We just love her so much. Hopefully she really turns a corner, we all pray for that.”
