Video: Ben Watson's tackle [merged]

NFL Total Access featured Ben Watson's amazing tackle of Champ Bailey in the 2005 AFC Divisional loss to the Broncos in Denver. If you remember, Champ Bailey returned an INT 99 yards and was knocked out of bounds by a hustling Ben Watson.

The clip features Ben Watson, Bill Belichick and some chatter from the Broncos sideline after the play.

Well worth the 3 1/2 minutes.

I was there. It's rather hard to forget for me, but I can tell you, I was in that part of the endzone and I still remember -knowing- that it went out into the Endzone.

I will go to my grave believing that was a touchback and the play that should've turned the game around. Thankfully the Pats have given us much more to celebrate and that isn't a haunting game.

Bailey CLEARLY fumbled through the endzone on that play... should have been pats' ball on the 20... couple that with the bullsh!t pass interference penalties, and the pats should have been in that game with a chance to win at the end...

b/c i remember watching that game, and the morning after whooping denver's ass in madden....

man, wut a heartbreaker....we had a chance to go 3 sb's in a row...imagine that? (guess now well have to start from scratch, LOL)

but yea....so u say that the ball really did go out of the endzone? percentage wise, how sure are u?

I will never forget that play. We got screwed but nevertheless if there was ever a play that epitomized the Patriots it was that one.

I love watching the aerial shot and seeing Watson just keep coming and coming and then BOOM.

1. Kevin Faulk (he who made Ed Reed fumble recently) slowed up Champ Bailey.

2. Tom Brady gave respectable chase, sort of.

3. Troy Brown (he who made that Charger DB fumble) caused Bailey's police escort to focus on him, helping hide Watson.

4. Watson hit like a Mack truck.

The most priceless part is easily the conversation among the Broncos: "Who was that?..... 84? TIGHT END?"

I thought that play made the loss just a little easier to take.
Outstanding. A great job by Ben.
What's not been mentioned on this thread is
that play provides the only picture in a loss
on the famed Pats Hall of Pics.

If I heard BB correct, there are NO plays on the wall from losses. His comment was, if there ever was a play from a loss to be up there, that would be it.

NFLN just showed the Watson crossfield run

During the Champ Bailey pick return during the Broncos playoff game two years ago. I've seen rumblings of Watson hate here, but that play was indicative of how hard he works and his desire to win. Love the play, it could have easily been overturned as a touchback too.
