OT: Jack Edwards retiring.

Pearson was a good player back in his day, he also could sum up a scoring play and who would get the goal. Orr passes to Hodge passes to Mackenzie, he shoots and it bounces off the boards and bounces off a Toronto players skate then touches Espo's stick and he'll get the goal.

Pearson had a great eye and an economical delivery, there are a lot of worse things that can be said about a color guy. I know, I've said plenty of them about Zo & Scal

Because there were so many more stoppages in play during those years, Pinpoint (given him by the Sports Huddle dudes I believe) would fill those pre-faceoff gaps by simply repeating the goal-scoring summary, even if no additional goals had been scored since the last time he did it... I thought he was much more effective in the studio with Tom Larsen where he could concentrate on play break-downs & analysis than he was in the broadcast booth... His between-period interviews weren't bad either...

That was beautiful. Bless you for sharing. My wife and I spent 5 months is Asia before we had to come back to deal with this past year. Now we have 3 months planned in Europe that coincides with a nieces wedding in Florence. I agree retire as early as possible. None of us get out alive

My wife & I spent a few days in Florence - as well as in Rome & Venice - and all for the first time two years ago this past March; it was awesome... While staying in Florence we took a day trip to Pisa; climbed up the tower & everything! Being a six-year student at the Boston Latin School, I felt as if I were back in class, or at the MFA...

It certainly does, we were able to retire a little over a year ago at 59. I can’t imagine going through the daily grind still.
Just the traffic alone is insane. Any big city could be 3 hrs a day in travel… just stressful.

I know his style is polarizing, but I have an appreciation for Jack after meeting him in person through his wife at the gym I used to train in a few years ago. I didn't make a big deal out of it but told him that my then 13 year old son tuned in regularly to Bruins games because he found Jack to be so entertaining. Jack replied (in very Jack Edwards fashion), "Well, thanks for putting a roof over my head."

Two days later his wife showed up with 2 tickets for my son and me to see the B's play the Blackhawks later in the week. It turned out the night of the game was a pretty bad snowstorm, but we decided to push through and make the drive from CT. We had great seats close to center ice. With about 5 minutes left in the 1st period, we were approached by security and escorted up to the press box "high above the ice." Once the period ended Jack invited us into the booth (we met Brick briefly) and spent the next 15 minutes showing my awestruck teenager how everything worked and about how he used a program he built with his own teenager to keep track of players and stats. After taking a photo with us he had virtually no time to get back to work.

That was my son's first game (a Bruins victory) and we never forgot that generosity of time, for 2 people he didn't know at all. I'm guessing there are many untold stories similar to this one about a guy who never played but has a deep love for the game and its fans.

I never liked him calling hockey, always thought he was one of the worst. Liked him on Sports Center.

Wasn’t a big fan of Jack, but I respect his passion for the Bruins. He certainly loved the franchise.
