Article is BS. He's using history to make the argument that it's why Brady supplanted Bledsoe, as if BB knew the following 15 years would play out the way they did. Nobody, including Bill, saw Brady coming the way he did. The simple fact is that Brady outperformed and even BB said they really had no intention of keeping three QB's in '01 but he just could not see cutting Brady based on how he performed in practices and the preseason. Bledsoe, to contrast, didn't have a great camp and, IIRC, played in the final preseason game that year. He also didn't start that year playing exceptionally well either. THAT'S WHY Brady eventually took and kept the reigns, even when Bledsoe came back.
BB is a winner and will always play the guys he feels gives the team the best chance to win. I fully expect for BB to want to move on from Brady if he starts to slip (assuming he will continue coaching), even if it's a Tedy Bruschi-type nudge to retire rather than be traded or cut. BB is sentimental, no doubt, but it never takes the place of fielding a winning team, IMO.
