I get your point but at the same time the team didn't move on from him in the same calculated and cold fashion like they did with e.g. Hogan so claiming that there was absolutely no trust there anymore makes no sense to me.

He certainly wasn't the same perfect fit like Edelman or Dola but there had to be some roles they felt really comfortable.

Did the guy think we were going to start throwing a bunch of 50/50 balls or off schedule throws? Make the plays you are suppose to make and then you'll get the big sideline plays you had 2 years ago in the playoffs. It's like he thinks he can just line up and run down field?

That's how it works in this offense, but there are successful offensive systems elsewhere that are much simpler and more aggressive. I've always been under the impression Seattle is one of those teams and it doesn't surprise me at all that some players prefer it, especially when the Patriots system got results like 2019.

Ya I agree, but his quote is almost like he didn't know how the Pats play. Either way, enjoy Seattle. Thanks for the years.

Yup, the requirements of the Brady-McDaniels offense were too difficult for Dorsett. That does NOT mean that he won't do better in a less complicated offense. Not all defenses have the wide receiver as the hot read, after requiring him to read the defense. Some use another player for that role, and have the receiver just think about his route.

We underestimate just how good some players have been in the Brady-McDaniels offense, especially Edelman, Gronk, and White.

So, we all agree that Dorsett made a mistake last year when he signed with the patriots.
I'm not sure I see any disagreement.

That's like me jumping in a lake in February and then claiming I made a mistake, it was too cold. Sure he may be right, but please man, just keep it to yourself you knew what you were getting into.

I feel like when he was targeted he made plays problem was he wasn’t targeted often.
Was this that the play wasn’t designed to go to Him as a top 3 option?
Was it McDaniels scheming him off?
Was it Tom not trusting Him to be where he wanted to put the ball?
    Was it chemistry?
Was it Tom couldn’t throw the deep ball anymore which is Dorsetts biggest attribute?
If Dorsett Has a Career year in Seattle it will hurt.
    But it’s clear.
Between Hollister And Gordon and now Dorsett Seattle doesn’t think these guys are useless.
With Hollister we saw he had number 1 tight end ceiling as a receiving tight end.
So why didn’t that work in New England?
Injury history sure plays a huge part but Rivers is still on the roster.
I remember right before he was traded it was reported Tom said Hollister was breaking out.

Very interesting and I think after this upcoming season you'll be able to more accurately assess both Hollister and Gordon. I wouldn't be shocked if they were solid starters, but I also wouldn't be shocked if both were cut.

If Dorsett was in the MLB he'd be the guy who always tore it up Apri-June but thru July and Sept he couldn't hit his weight.

    Career:

    September: 47/694/6
    Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan: 77/940/5

    Thats sad.

If there was a mistake it was BB bringing him back last year.

Hollister is not a #1 TE. Can't block and averages 8,5ypc.

Before Gordon can be cut by Seattle he has to resign with them.

I'm curious how Covid effected players wih substance issues, not having night life help or hurt themselves.

So the NFL weed policy now is 1 test per year regardless of your history and no games suspension so Josh Gordon can play until he's 40.

Any hope Jacob can become a #1 TE.

So many are quick to say what players can't do but with coaching and practice can they learn?

A prime example heard early in Wade Boggs career, good bat no glove.

Eventually Boggs was a gold glover.

So what percentage of don't block TE draft picks will ever learn how to block?

    Let me rephrase.

Can he put a hat on a player and hold a block for a second? Yes.

Will he redirect a player in the run and passing game? Not effectively.

Does Hollister know how to block? Yes. Can he move people? Not really.

He doesn't have the frame/strength to do it. Some things players just can't do.

Except Dorsett really wasn’t all that good playing in Indy, either. In 5 NFL seasons, he has a high of 33 catches and two seasons where he caught 12 and 18. He’s averaging less than 25 catches a season. What else do we need to see from him? Do you honestly think that he’ll go to Seattle and take a lot of production away from Metcalf, Lockett, or newly acquired TE Greg Olsen?

Dorsett is what he is, which is an average WR4 in the NFL. Unfortunately for him, that also means that he’s a Major first round bust.

Dorsett a 1st round bust?? And I was led to believe on this board that the Patriots only made mistakes such as this...

Overall he was a much better fit for Indy with their offense being more vertical and not so MOF focused as ours. From that point of view his strengths will align much more with the Seattle offense than ours.

He was a Cooks insurance when traded for and unfortunately never showed any major flexibility or range.
