So, last year they allowed players to essentially be recalled from the PS without having to pass through waivers. You could do 2 a week. You could also do a COVID recalls (no limit).

We haven't heard anything that they are keeping that mechanism, but I sure hope that they do. Despite some fears of it being abused., I don't believe it was.. I don't think that any "rookie" was hidden there and they still kept the ability for players to be signed away..

Loved the changes they made for covid including both the PS changes and especially the IR changes of 3 weeks and any amount of players being on it.

It never made sense to force players dealing with injury to be backups when you could easily give players breaks by utilizing the PS.

Great point, they need the change permanent.

Yes, and said so last year.

It was expanded for Covid. But, allowing PS players to be promoted weekly to the 48 man roster was part of the new CBA enacted last off-season.

Originally, it was to increase the PS from 10 12 players last year and to 14 this season. Two players a week could be promoted to the 48 man game roster. But, a player could only be promoted twice without being subjected to waivers to return to the PS and not require a corresponding move on the 53 roster,

It got expanded with the Covid side agreement to 16 players and players could be promoted more than twice to replace someone on the Covid list.

As it was part of the CBA, it will be in effect in 2021 with the only question being the expanded rules dealing with Covid.

If they go to 17 games which I think they will all 53 should be dressed...

Heard Bob Kraft in the past say something to the effect "that they pay all these guys, why can't you pay them?"

Teams would be structured somewhat differently...

Which is interesting because in the past Belichick has voiced the opposite opinion. He's worried that having too many players available leads to too many specialist roles, where you'll have a guy up just to be the punt protector, or a guy just to be the gunner on long punts. I think he likes having to coach guys into multiple roles, which the limited roster necessitates. It also is an advantage for him, because I think managing a gameday roster is one his strengths as a coach.
